Hey Peeps,

After constant battle with the car, my bro went for the decision in taking the car back! The car wasn't even 3 years old and the list of eletrical problems are just stupid. IT was just too much risk to take!

Now he is an owner of a BMW 320 D :D

For me this really put me off buying a new fiat ..............

Ming

Think every new car has there niggles, but would still buy a new fiat. Hope he gets the mpg returns from the 320D he wants

I've sort of followed his tale of woes on FF and FS and to be honest the price he paid for it reflected the a problematic car. I had hoped with your expertise you'd be able to sort the problems but I guess they were too endemic.

I'm one of the (touch wood) lucky ones. My GP appears to be ok and even with one (free) service with Uncle Arnie is still running ok. It goes back to my usual mechanic this year so time will tell. Please let it still be ok

to be fair my father bought a mjet brand new and has nothing but problems with it. from engine extreme temp warnings at normal temps and 'check engine' warnings. even refusal to starts a GP is NOT a car i would buy. i know 3 personal friends who have bought and then returned GP'S (i think the evo is more finished). and to be fair

the price he payed is what their worth, and the car was advertised as problem free... and for the start it was. but from one thing to another their usless...

to sum it up when they work they work spot on, but once one thing stops working electrically its a catalyst.. most famous is a flashing odometer from a drop in voltage over winter.. to serious things like refusal to start.

Dont know what your all talking about my GPs been fine, only major thing is that the paint colour doesnt match on the panels but as ive not owned the car from new then i cant really comment in all fairness. Think you get good ones and bad ones to be honest

jodie how long you had yours? common annoying faults are things like the glovebox wouldnt close so latches were bent at dealers so they are hard to close, odometers flash endlessley, door handle springs are common snapping so you get stuck in your car.. aswell as wheelbearings all common. and the diesels EGR valve is a pita

Ive had mine two and a half year.

The EGR was replaced along with the MAF but it was one trip to the dealer done under warrenty
I had the issue with the door handles not working with the locks and springs, that was cleared under warrenty aswell however it took 9 trips to the dealer as they couldnt match the paintwork, nothing major really.

Thats the only issues ive had with mine, and none of which has cost me anymoney, in honesty had the dealer listened to me with the door handles it would have been done in one trip maybe two not sodding 9

lol. aye so you have ad the common problems lol. there all a pita.. nothing major but it shouldnt happen.

i think their are good and bad ones but there are the same faults apearing through the range.

I'm getting worried now. I've had the car for nearly 18 months and the only problem so far was the hill holder and esp warning lights coming on when I first got the car. One trip back to the dealer sorted that out and they've never come back. The only problem I occasionally get is a warning that the anti pollution filter is clogged but I ignore it and it goes away. This is probably a bad thing and I'm storing up trouble for myself.

I got all my issues within the first year, shes not been a bother since.

Just done the top mounts today, thats the first part ive had to pay for in excess of servicing

That's a shame Ming, but I guess no new/nearly new car is going to be without it's problems. Not to say that should ever be the case, but hey - that's life!

Hope he has better luck with the new one!

When my mum got a brand new civic from Honda, it didn't need to go back to the dealer once :(

I am just disappointed! I was the one that recommended the GP Mjet......

As for the price that reflects a problematic car, it doesn't make senses for a car that is still uder warranty.....

Well I thought it was cheap for a 2 yr old Mjet. Of course I wasn't taking into account the difference between central belt and Aberdeen prices so that may account for it. But when I see something that's a good deal I always ask myself why and one possible reason is it was already discovered to be a lemon and the dealer wanted rid of it fast. This is probably my overly cynical way of thinking though. Even under warranty no one wants the hassle of constantly sending a car to the garage to be fixed.

you all seem to forget that there will be bad and some will be good its the same when you by electrical goods from a store some may work others may not its just a way of life in the processing plants they get different batches of materials to make the product and if one batch is bad then that batch will cause unknown troubles for whichever part its designed for simple solution is take it back for repairs or get your money back people seem to forget that you can get your money back from any dealer under the correct conditions

Could've been a Friday job

But seriously, sorry to hear about your brother's problems with the GP. For what it's worth, I've heard many good things about the 2-litre diesel in those BMs - hopefully shall prove a better prospect. Not that BMWs are free from electrical gremlins by any means of course.

On the subject, was looking at e30s last night after watching some early 90's saloon car racing. Not BTCC, but production based in the UK - '93 championship had a 2.2 Prelude against some Sapphire Cossies, Saab 9000 Turbo, Suzuki Swift GTi's and bunch of other stuff :D

Guys, I'm on my third grande, and other than the EGR valve that had to be replaced, my gearstick being frozen(see below) and the outside issues(me crashing tangerine, tyres intentionally sabotaged, stone chip to window causing a big crack and me breaking my gear box cables due to being frozen) I've had no problems with any of them!!??

On saying that I have also heard some major horror stories, but then could say the same about other makes and models!!

At least it wasn't a Toyota!! :p

Well I've had my GP for over 1month now, ok so the glovebox handlesnapped off but that can be glued back on.
Still waiting for 1centre cap & need to get the parcel shelf clips, otherwise when I open te boot, the shelf slips fowards, so thinking about temp cable tieing it in place.

Bridgend phoned yesterday, just a courtesy call & mentioned that the car is still under Fiat warranty until 28th November, then their 2yr extended warranty automatically comes in after that.

Oh & the CD has a mind of it's own, randomally switches itself off hmmmmm.
Other than that I've got NO problems with the GP.
