Hello, all day today my 1.2 bravo has been juddering quite badly, its been doing it for a while now and again, but today has been worse. Just come back from shopping and on the way there i had the window open. The car started juddering as normal in second/thrid gear at about 2000 revs and then BANG!! i thought i had been shot at  Wasn't til i stopped crapping my self that i heard it again and realised it was coming from the exhaust. Any ideas anyone as im gonna end up giving some poor old soul a heart attack :(

Hi, im in Gillingham. When the juddering starts im 100% sure that when i turn the car off, it will not start again until its cooled down, which Jud has said is to do with the Lambda Sensor which i am getting hopefully sometime next week. The backfiring is new to me today

Snap! I am in Gillingham too-near the sava. It sounds like you could have a coil pack problem-although the backfireing could be related to the lambda sensor so would be worth seeing if fitting one helps. Where you getting the work done?

Rich.

My hubby's gonna do it. If he gets stuck his mate owns a garage near the high street and said to shout him if need be.

OK

I am pretty handy with Fiats so you can give me a shout if you have problems as you are so local. As I said best to fit the lambda sensor and see if it cures the backfireing before doing anything else.

Rich.

Excellent, cheers for that :) Hubbys good with fords, vauxhalls etc but never had the privilege of working on a fiat!! He is getting used to it though, not had much luck with this one!! lol

Juddering Doesn't always mean you are running on three as with that you would have a lack of power with it and it wouldnt backfire. A weak spark from tired coil packs is a more feasable answer for the juddering and the backfire means either a lean mixture(lambda fault) or the timing is out.

it does sound like a lack of ignition could be the issue. coils, leads and plugs need checking and replacing if in doubt. a multimeter can be used to check the condiiton of the coil pack, make a comparison of both coil resistance readings (take both LT and HT reading for each coil) to decide if one is dying.
