This maybe won't mean much to most of you, but Aberdeen City has no bypass.

Most towns/cities etc have some form of bypass, we don't.

Basically, the bulk of traffic heading north through town has to either cross a medievil bridge which hasn't been fit for purpose since the invention of the horse and cart, or head into town.

Efforts to construct the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route have been on the table for years, longer than most of us have been on this earth. In the past 10 years or so efforts have been stepped up to get it built. But now, the NIMBYS are out in force again, moaning that it shouldnt be built. Losing appeal after appeal, they won't take rejection of their case as final, and now plan to use Human rights laws etc to stop the road being built.

Would be nice to get a few signatures on this petition - if you are local, a visitor etc and want to sign, that'd be dandy!

as said on FB, its madness it's taken as long as it has, yet its still not getting done right now

the road network around aberdeen itself is horribly out of date

It's completely ludicrous that Aberdeen doesn't have a bypass. Thanks to the oil industry being centred in up here there are a large number of hgvs trailing up and down the A90 having to pass through the city centre to get north or south.

Even a small town like Ellon has a bypass so why we still have to go through Aberdeen any time we want to head south I have no idea. I just wish these people would give up their nonsense and accept it actually makes sense.
