My 6 week old (to me) Multipla wasn't as dead as I thought; insurers have decided to have it repaired~~~~~~~~~ Which leads me to an interesting thought. It had full service history up to when I bought it, with new cambelt and tensioners fitted during it's 72,000 mile service. New MOT showing 88,136 miles came with it, so at most I reckon it's got around 90,000 on the clock now. The clutch and flywheel have not been replaced since the car was new; should I ask the garage to replace the clutch while they're in there, to be paid for separately by me? Clutch has a very low bite point but in use, there's no judder or snatch.

Hellcat mentioned on a different thread that a faulty MAF sensor could be a possible cause of low power. Is this a difficult thing to replace? I'm not trying to screw the insurance, they've been fair to me but I see nothing wrong with asking the garage to do additional work on my behalf while they're in there doing the insurance work..........

OK, I understand that to some people, overuse of smillies can annoy, but under the circumstances I think I'm allowed these two.

:woot: :woot:

Well done for keeping hold of car .

dont know about your clutch issues ours is at 130000 miles now & as far as i can tell its still on its original clutch.
Maf sensor is dead easy 2 bolts unclip wire & replace. buy a decent bosch one & if yours is faulty a new one makes a marked difference.
smiley forgiven.

Thanks Andy,

I must be getting my sensors wrong; I read somewhere about a sensor that does an important job, but sometimes gets ignored because it's tricky to replace; something about having to take the cam belt off to replace it? Does this ring a bell with you? My thoughts about the clutch are because the bite point is very low, indicating wear in the friction plate or release bearing making it necessary to push the clutch pedal further down to fully free it. I've also been told that unlike a cable operated clutch, the hydraulic clutch on the Multipla cannot be adjusted for clearance.

It's a fairly steep learning curve~~~~~~~~~ Jim.

sounds like its all irrelavent now Jim !!
I take it your insurance co has chosen to write car off?

As hellcat says MAF sensor(Mass Air Flow) which is located within round pipe just before air filter box with wire attached to it .if it is faulty and it is difficult to tell ,will give symptons you experienced.
not sure about clutch but i dont think you can adjust them anyway.

Are you going to try to buy another multi ??
i would go for a 110/115 this time if possible.

Definately going for a 110/115; got a thing about rev counters:D. Guess I'm getting my sensors confused; I thought I read somewhere on the forum about a `TDC sensor'? Something that's part of the engine management system and sits somewhere that neceitates taking the timing belt (cam belt?) off to replace. The thing that annoys me is the contradictory signals from the insurance people. Yesterday they were going to repair it, now they aren't.

Meanwhile, I've invested £3-50 in GLASS'S and £2-50 in PARKER'S detailed `Valuation Certificates', ready for the inevitable haggle with the insurers. If I'm going to argue with these creatures, I may a well have a much ammo as possible. Wish me luck~~~~~~~~ Jim.
