Axle stands

I need to do some repairs on the Brava which require me to jack the car up and put it on axle stands.
I've never done this before - where should i put the stands exactly without ruining the car? Anybody got some pictures?

Also - where should i lift the car with a trolley jack? (if i want to lift the front or backend of the car).

should be in the haynes

but use ur common sense and dont jack it up by the floor pan!

also put a bit of wood between the bottle/trolly jack and the car to stop the jack bending anything same for the axle stands
