I went through a average speed camera at 55mph in a 40mph limit, after realising this I backed off to 30mph
so that when I passed the camera a mile up the road I would be well within the average time limit, what I want to no is will I be fined for speeding up to the first camera or do they only detect average speed?

they detect your average speed so you should be ok at that speed if it was 30 all the way through but the whole hubbab about specs at the moment is that if you switch lanes after you go through the first camera it cant detect you as the second camera is waiting for you coming through dont know if its true or not :)

If it's a dual carraigeway and you alternate between lanes (say you're doing 100MPH) the SPECS camera's can't detect you.

Even if the limit was 30MPH, it still wouldn't detect you if you alternate lanes between each camera. :)

but to answer the question...

you'll be fine because your average speed was probably 32mph or something really low like that.

the's a row of three near to where i live in cov and if you approach the first one at over the designated speed limit ie 60 in a 50 it gets you for that then continues to average your speed. my foolish mate got done twice by them!

"If it's a dual carraigeway and you alternate between lanes (say you're doing 100MPH) the SPECS camera's can't detect you."

And you actually believe that?!

They still detect you but a legal loophole means you can't be prosecuted if you are caught in two different lanes. Expect that to change pretty sharpish !!

If you pass the first one over the limit yet average out to be on or below the limt by the time you are picked up by the second one, you will get away with it. The SPECS camera's don't detect speed themsleves. They take a picture and log your registration at the two points. They then calculate your average speed. If you are above, an FPN is issued, if you are on or below, the images are discarded.

Either way, if you were speeding, take it like a man and deal with it.

Currently SPECS cameras can only read one lane.

The only way possible for SPECS cameras to read more than one lane, is to get more SPECS cameras at the same point. Thus meaning for a motorway, you'd need 3 SPECS cameras for every "checkpoint" on the motorway. (Assuming it's a three-lane motorway)
