Came to fitting aux belt this eve and it simply wouldn't go on. Tensioner fully back and the belt simply wasn't long enough to gi over pulleys.
Checked it against the one that came off and it was a 1855 versus a 1835 shopfirparts sent me.
Assumed they just sent me the wring one however when checking online it looks like the 1835 is the right one.. Air con model by the way.
There's no adjustment on these right??
Maybe someone fitted a bigger pulley along the way!

Anyone else have this issue or can confirm the belt should go on pretty easily with tensioner fully back

By the way have wheel off and the cover so I have good access etc etc

Marty.

I've not come across the different sizes but yes the belt should go back on fairly easy with the tensioner right back.

Yeah thought as much.. No wonder there was a bigger belt on it!!

Anyone fancy measuring the diameter of their pulleys for me to cross reference??

Most likely crank pulley as it gets replaced frequently.

I'll get my vernier callers out and take a few
measurements.. Will prob just put a bigger belt on it tho for the mo.
Be nice to know tho if a pulley is wrong by how much so tensioner doing it's job ok

Marty.

Altho be nice to find out which is wr

It will go on but is a right pain in the arse...
Would be a million times easier if u have someone else with you to do the tensioner while u put the belt on!!

Had a look on the invoice for mine and it's an 1842. That's only 7mm difference between that and an 1835 and only 13mm to a 1855. Out of the 3 the 1835 is going to be the hardest to fit but if your supplier is confident they have the right belt and it wont go on then something must be amiss with your set-up.

I'm getting full deflection on the tensioner and am able to hold it in this position. It won't go on!!! Belt smug on all the pulleys.
I reckon it's no coincidence there was a bigger belt on it.
Same belt size on all of them it seems

Anyone fancy measuring a pulley or two?
Marty.

Tempted!!
That's what will be happening at first light!!!

Would just like to know tho what's wrong.

Obviously a previous owner had something swapped out but what???

Marty.

Out of all the pulleys on the aux side...I would say the only one that could be different is the alternator pulley. Maybe a previous owner has put a new alternator on but from a different car??

I'll measure em all now once I've had a scald and hopefully work out which one us wrong.

If for example the wring alternator is in there I'd like to know if it's up to the job.
To drop out a driveshaft to get the alternator out of these yokes!!
Marty.

Ok all back together and took measurements.
Aircon 120
Altenator 65
Crankshaft 170
Power steering 128

Tried the 1835 again in the light of day... No way would it go on..

Anyway have noticed there is a bit of a wobble in the crank pulley... Is this normal??
Not vibrating or noising under full lock or anything.

I know this pulley has a rubber centre to absorb vibration so I guess it does move a bit under normal conditions but should it be visible??

By the way... This is nit visible unless you shine a light down there.

Should I be concerned?

Cheers
Marty

sorry cant help with the measurements as im at work

but as for the crank pulley, you really shouldnt be able to wobble it, the rubber is quite thick and acts as a shock absorber more than anything else..

i replaced mine as other said do it while im there and the old one was still as good as new so sold it on here

maybe yours has deteriorated

it looks as good as new too...but it is wobbling!!...hope its not a crank bearing.
Have ordered a new one anyway as im not happy with it.
Cost is starting to add up....and i paid over the odds for the car as it had a good bit of work done to it prior to purchase :(:(
