Automatic Radio Volume at Speed

Matt asked on October 22 2000 how the SCV control worked. He got absolute rubbish in reply!
The manual explains the concept of the radio volume increasing at speed but how do you switch it on. Please don't reply with what the manual says because it explains nothing. It tells you to use the EXPERT function to set a volume. We can all do that. But... what switches it on once you have set it. Is it automatic? Does a higher number mean higher volume? If you looked at the volume setting display at 70 MPH would it be a higher number? Does it only work for 1 set of pre-entered volume settings? And.....how do you know it is working?
I have the higher spec unit before you ask. Perhaps it's a confidence trick by FIAT and this feature is disabled in the UK.

Radio Speed Control

Chris, I have the same radio unit as you & I have set my SVC ( or what ever it's called. I have been drinking !!) to 19 I think the higher the number the louder the radio or Cassette/CD will become the quicker you go. It is automatic & the volume control number will not change as you go quicker. Believe me it does work. Good Luck. If you haven't got a manual give me an E-Mail and I will type out the instructions for you.

Is 19 the magic number...

Thanks, I have the manual. The setting 19 is the standard setting when you first try it. I've set mine to 34 (the max) and don't hear any volume change. The manual says set your volume at idle (I set mine to 12) then take it up to speed and switch the EXP on and adjust the setting (mine now says 34).
It makes no difference. The volume does not increase with speed.
Will it only work if I set the volume to 12 or should it make an incremental increase at all volumes?

Auto Radio Volume

I'm with you Chris, I can't get mine to work either. No one at my Local Dealership has a clue about it. Maybe as you say this feature has been disabled in UK spec. cars

Mine works!

I've got a UK Brava and the SCV function works fine on mine (99T SX series 2). I just did what it told me in the manual (using the EXP button).

Auto Radio Volume#2

Hi Chris, I took my Bravo to a friend (of a friend) who works at Car Audio. I showed him the Bravo Radio Manual and relevant instructions ref. the Auto Volume. He disconnected the "+" terminal of the battery for about 5 minutes, replaced it, entered the Radio Code, and reprogrammed the Radio using the Radio Manual. I now have the Auto Volume feature working on my Radio!!! LOL. This is maybe something you could try, but make sure that you have your Radio Code before you disconnect your Battery.

Now this looks interesting....

So disconnecting the battery resets all the settings to standard. I want to try this but.... I don't have the radio code. The unit does not come up as SAFE when I check it on the EXP settings so I assume no code is set. (It says CODE at this point) The unit was slightly proud when I got it so I assume it has been removed (and replaced?) I must contact FIAT fro the code.
If the code is not set can I remove the battery + ?

volume control

all you have to do is leave the car at idle press exp and scroll down to sv set it by using the +and - signs for minutes on the radio.i set it at 21 press the exp button until you hear the beep .it should work the faster you go the louder it gets oh set the nomal radio volume control around 10

I tried that....

....and it doesn't work. I need to try the previous advice about disconnecting the battery. What I need to know is whether not having the code is a problem? If it says CODE and not SAFE will I have a problem?
Mine is a Brava Auto. Does this model not send a speed output to the radio?
