Anyone else have this warning message appear?

When it does, the gearbox gives a "clunk" and sticks in 3rd gear, but restart the engine and, hey presto, its back to normal.

Hi,

It is a fault, I think it is caused by faulty valves or something. Apparently there were a batch of faulty ones.

I would take it to the dealer and get them to fix it. It can be dangerous if you need to accelerate.

I have experienced this auto gearbox failure (diesel) -two new boxes so far plus valve changes and latterly a completely new type of oil but to no avail. To have a third replacement box next week. How long should this problem be tolerated and what redress does one have? There is still a year left on the warranty.

I had it twice and it disappeared immediately.

It's a kind of self-protection procedure.

It could be nothing, but if it occures very frequently, as in David's post, It is a problem.

In my case it occured after some intensive playing with the knob that perhaps caused some confusion to the ECU.

...maybe "gear selector" would have been a better choice of phrase here!!!
Couldn't resist that one.

Sorry! I'm not a native English speaker, surely not Brit English...

I guess "knob" has some hidden meaning
