Hi. Let's hear who has an answer for this illogical occurence:
My F plate 999cc Fire has all of a sudden started dragging the rear brakes quite noticably. The handbrake pulls up to almost last notch, and the rear shoes have done at least 25000 miles, so its not new brakes bedding in, heating up and expending, or a hand brake cable that is too tight. I have removed, opened and cleaned out the load compensator valve and set it to give the minimum restriction.
Any other Uno drivers who had had the same?
Thanks
Johan

seized linkage perhaps??

Get someone to apply the handbrake and watch to see if anythning hapens at the roadwheel end of the cable. the lever should travel about 2 to 3 inch from memory..

you may end up removing the linkage between handbrake cable and shoe. check that it can pivot freely. when they start to rust they can end up binding badly or become ineffective. has the handbrake lever lost it's spring whey you let the brakes off too?

easier said than done - if they are seixed on you will perhaps struggle removing the drum.. try tapping the lever rearwards to relieve pressure on the shoe. also the drum holes that the 2 M8 wheel mount pegs mount to the hub are threaded in larger thread ?? M10 so you can push the hube off if you evenly screw bolts in.

the levers may present their own problems to remove...

I have some pics of the late MK2 setup here.

it's not the same setup as the MK1 (diferent auto adjusters), but the linkage and Pivot can suffer the same issue.

Alternativly you may have over auto adjusted (too much reverse handbrake stops)

Good luck...
