Hi Fiat people, can anyone recommend a trusted and experienced auto electrician on the South coast (E and W Sussex, Hampshire) to look at our 2012 Ducato converted campervan which has EGR fault codes on the ECU and is only running with the Air mass sensor unplugged.. Main dealer (Adam Morley) didn’t want to help as it has a replacement (2016) engine. The best they could do was advise it has wiring/ electrical issues.. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers, Will

Hi WilI
Welcome to the Forum, I do not like being a "Jonah", but the mention of a 2016 engine with EGR fault codes makes me suspect that you may have an engine with a twin EGR system. This engine has been a cause of problems to many owners. Member @theoneandonly is collating information about such problems and I think that he will be able to confirm that your engine is in this class.

Perhaps unfortunately the longest thread on the forum, which may be viewed here, relateds to twin EGR engine problems.

Do not spend any money on diagnostics until you have found out more.

Thanks to @Communicator for bringing this to my attention.
I think if you have a twin egr engine then the best thing to do for a start is read a couple of guides ive writen and to try and understand the "favourite" problem of this type of engine. I you havent got access to a working copy of Multiecuscan (also known as MES) then I would advise that is your first job.
and second in series

Hello @Will S

I’ve seen a few threads on here asking for names of technicians/garages ect but very few answers.
Also I see other forum users have provided responses for issues on twin EGR vehicles based on reading the year 2016 yet your vehicle is a 2012 that merely had its engine changed in 2016, so that information may or may not apply.

The Ducato suffers with a myriad of issues, such as but not limited to water ingress reaching the ecu and fuse box, a fragile branch of the wiring loom which rubs on metal work under the bonnet causing high resistance or open circuit breaks in wiring, bad earthing straps but also issues with egr components and I’m guessing from your post you don’t wish to self diagnose/repair.

So going back to your original request, it is my experience for such instances that rather than using an auto electrician, you are often best served using a manufacturer specialist, who have been in business a fair while and have extensive knowledge for the model range they work on and have the diagnostic equipment to assist.
A quick search on the internet finds this Fiat specialist in Southampton, of which I’ve no knowledge, however their advert suggests they’ve been trading as Fiat Specialists since 2004 and have dealer diagnostics (MES as mentioned in previous posts)….perhaps someone on here could advise if it’s a good company or you could speak with them to ascertain their breadth of knowledge for your vehicle.

Good luck and let us know what the fix was, it could help others in the future.

Thank you both for your advice and directing me to these previous discussions and guides which are very comprehensive, this forum is such a great resource! The replacement engine was just the block and not all the component parts, so the EGR element would be part of the original 2012 engine. We have limited technical knowledge and historical information on the replacement engine so still looking for an auto electrician to guide us and help with the problem solving..
