Just putting this out there, there seems to be a few suss spots on my 5 month old 500 where the paint is pitting or having rusty-coloured specs coming through, anyone else having any issues, particularly around the door openings and rear hatch?

Thanks.

Personally, no, but the 500 has a 8 year anti-perforation warranty? so if I were having those sorts of issues 5 months into ownership, I think the dealer and I would be having a chat.

Happened to me and the Missus with our old MX5. First we had to have all four alloys replaced under warranty two years into ownership, shortly followed by the rear wheel arches rusting, again fixed under dealer warranty and finally, both rear quarter panels completely replaced due to severe internal rust issues, again, done under warranty 4 months before the six year anti-perforation warranty expired.

This is not rust (well not the sort you mean). It is "fall out" - mainly brake dust from the train that carried your car on part of its journey to from Poland to Australia.

You can clean it off by "claying" your car or by using a specialist (quite nasty) chemical.

Have a look through the "car care" section of the forum for more details.

Will post some links if I get time tonight if you look for my thread in car care titled something like my new evo first clean there's a bit about fall out removal in there

And about 6 posts down on here my sisters 500 was covered

I picked up my Fiat 500 two weeks ago. Two days later, I noticed two rust spots . One was on the underside of the hood and the other was on the roof where it meets the hatchback. The one on the roof is a line of rust that drips down . the spot on the underside of the hood is a paint chip. It looks like it was repainted because you can see that it isn't a smooth finish. Took the car back right away and they took pics and am waiting to hear back from them. All the info goes to Fiat and they decide if they're going to fix it or give me a new car. Can't believe something like this was able to pass through the Fiat inspection process.

It's definitely rust and I received a call from the dealership today. Fiat will be repairing it and will be doing a thorough inspection of the vehicle to make sure there aren't any other issues. Glad they're dealing with it.
