Mine has sprung one of those "radweld aint gonna fix it" type leaks . The last time i had a fiat radiator changed ( on my 1.7d tipo) it cost me about 200 notes ,

anyone changed one themselves on a marea (td100) or similar ?? what should the radiator cost if bought seperately??

cheers.

Rads are expensive, no matter if its fiat or not. The rad for my VW van set me back £200 on its own!

I changed two last year after 1 split and one looked as if it was about to. It depends if youhave a header tank or a pressurised system. Luckily I have a header tank.

Its quite easy, but a bit slow.

First find the bottom drainage point and place a large bowl underneath it. Switch off the mains (so the header tank doesn't keep filling up) then slacken off the bleed screw. Keep going until no more water comes out - it will be black and horrible if its an old system)

When you have drained it, you can slacken off both valves from the rad and then remove completely. I would suggest puttin gold towls underneath to catch the drips.

Once the valves are off, you can then lift and take the rad off the mounting brackets. Have a bowl nearby to pour the remaining water out the rad into before you carry it out.

Refit is simply mount it in the bracket, do the valves back up with some PTFE tape then turn the bleed screw back closed. You can turn on your mains and the header tank will refill. Slowly allow the system to fill, using the top bleed screws on the rads to bleed the air and fill the rads. Its easier to have the system "on" and the pump going when your refill the system.

I hope that was of some help

i was sort of hoping for a fiat radiator changing scenario rather than a domestic one - interesting none the less -

Hi Carrsy mate.

When I had my old Bravo, (Same engine as your Marea) I had a problem with my rad and I had to get it welded. But that meant taking it off and taking it to somewhere to get welded. :)

It's not really a problem to do as the bleed valve on the top of the rad on the left comes in pretty useful, and it's pretty much only two pipes and jubilee clips.

I use serckintretruck.co.uk or partco the same group
just phoned brimsdown branch (Enfield) Marea TD100 1.9cc rad £82.16 +VAT and YOU HAVE TO FIT IT

thanks

thanks chaps - the bravo forum to the rescue again !!!
and should my house radiators ever need replacing i am armed with that knowledge also !!!

Re: thanks

You will need new hose clamps, the fiat ones are crimped on and have to be cut off.

thanx tom

useful advice - always better to get it before the job is started . thanks .

Do not for get the ANTIFREEZE 50/50

domestic rads

alfanige : that takes too long to drain the system, it could cause chocked feeds and airlocks. easier just shutting off the valves at either side of the rad.
if its a pressurised system you'll get a spray of water when you take the valves off at first but its only as the rad is still pressurised.
if its a tank fed you'll not get this but its handy to have a basin and towels.

a majority of the time its easier to have the system off when filling, but if you just shut off the valves you will not need to fill the whole system which prevents alot of hassle.

sorry if ive corrected you.....plumbing and heating engineer, john!

Re: domestic rads

Slightly off topic, but I was wondering about the sites I have seen for fiat wallpaper............how many rolls would I need for an average bedroom?
