i had the problem with the footwell filling up with water, luckilly i found this site and cured it, but now its left the car a bit foisty, i have air freshners that work a treat but does anyone recommend anything to put directly onto the upholstry and carpet to try and deodorise it? i dont like febreeze i just wondered if there was a special car formula?

any ideas,

i don't know about cars, but for boats you can get little plastic boxes which you fill with the crystals (like in those little packets that come with things you buy) which get rid of the damp and condensation.

After that i think you would have to clean the carpet out to get rid of the smell else it will just keep coming back.

I had the very same problem as you with my drivers footwell filling up what did you do to cure yours i took my door rubber seal off and firmly re bedded it it cured the leak thankgod.

A couple of curries, baked beans and some mushy peas!
Might not cure the smell, but the morning after, you will be able to mask the fusty smell! LOL

Seriously, what is wrong with Fabreeze? not keen on the smell? I'm sure I've seen another brand on the shelf. Might smell better. Must admit, not keen on the Febreeze smell myself.
You could try an aromatherapy oil diluted in alcohol (NO not lager, just alcohol) There are dozens of smells to choose from, although that would work out expensive, compared to Fabreeze.

Mark.

PS
Hope the ref' to curries doesn't cause offence to anyone who may look in.

Re: Re: any tips on deodorising inside

ooh...aromatherapy oil, nice. Lol

Have you tried getting it professionally cleaned inside...valleted? If the bods that do the job use a carpet shampoo and then dry it out properly you shouldn't have any more problems with the smell, especially if you use a discreet air freshner of the rear view mirror type. It'll bring a new lease of life to the seats of the car too!! I'm getting mine done as an annual treat for the car as it costs about £45 for the lot.
Failing that, you could try 'shake and vac' for the rest of your happy Bravo driving/cleaning days.

Re: Re: Re: any tips on deodorising inside

i might just take it to a vallet place, good thinking,

lee, if your drivers footwell is filling up with water......lift the bonnet and at the right n left there are drainage holes, mine were full of **** like leaves dirt and feathers etc, just poke it all out or scoop it out and the problem should be solved.

cheers for the responds guys

Re: Re: Re: Re: any tips on deodorising inside

Cheers matey will check that out tomorrow do seem to recall doing that at the time as well thanks for the advice think this forum is really cool got loads of good advice which can save lots of time and cash thanks again.

Top Tip for deodorising...........

Get one of those "plant spray" bottles that has a trigger. Pour a bit of your favourite aftershave in it ("Wild Stallion" or "Horn for Men") is ideal, then top it up with water. Dont overdo the aftershave otherwise your sinus's will melt.

Spray the mixture all over the interior of your car (check for seat colour fastness first), then keep your windows wound up and park your car in the sun to let it permeate.

Seriously, I did this with some "Hugo Dark Blue" which got rid of the stink from a leaky rear washer hose.

By the way, this is kosher and not a **** take.

aldi

ok im a cheapskate, but you can get Fabreeze type (cheap) Aldi own label stuff that works a treat, i know beacuase i got a 4 and 9 year old and the stuff/smells they leave behind is not for discussion on a family forum

cheers

Re: Re: aldi

Or you could buy a stick-on Neutrodaol from Halfords for £3.

Cheaper than the Hugo Boss!

Aromatherapy oil

Marko.

What's wrong with aromatherapy oil?
I'm not a poofta (that'll upset some, no doubt) but I use them regularly, for various reasons.
I have a "calming" blend in the car, and a more mellow driver you'll not find!

Re: Aromatherapy oil

The door seal may not be the problem, read the bravo guide, fix a bravo section, a build up of leave near the bonnett bracket where is designed for the water to run out through a hole could be blocked, so where does the water go......to the footwell, Read Niges good explanation on how to clear it!

Re: Aromatherapy oil

Mark/Sabre,

I'm only having a gentle pop (bit of a "suits you sir" Gag that I rather childishly like to hang onto), wouldn't dare suggest you are a woofty. :)
I too have a gentle blend, but mostly in my ciggys and trust me, a mellow driver I can be too.
I just use one of those (sometimes lethal) wooden vanilla air freshners that dangle from the RV mirror.
Fresh is best. No offence bud.

re: deodorising car

Bit of a girly thread this but anyway, I use a Neutrogena gel type air freshner. Comes in kind of a plastic bowl with vents in the top and is the size of a tennis ball. I put mine in the space under the handbrake.

Gcol

Sorry, didn't put it very well. Didn't mean to imply that I was offended.
