Any statistics on induction kits?

Hello everyone!

I humbly bow to your collected knowledge and experience with Fiat cars, and especially the Bravo/a & Marea models.

As it has come to happen that I have bought my very first Fiat car, a Marea model with the 20v 155 horsepower engine, manual gearbox etc. I've not yet had it delivered, but it is most definately the most powerful and fast car I have owned so far. (Also the most modern, as it's a -99, and previous cars were -91 at youngest...).

Well, that was just an introduction, now to the actual question:

What induction kit/filter/setup would be the best for my car/engine? It does not have to look good, but simply make the engine breathe better and shout a bit louder! :) Also, if it could deliver a bit better mpg fuel performance, it would be nice...

Are there any figures that has acutally been prooven about which kit/filter/setup delivers the best performance and/or fuel economy? We're talking about a completely standard engine.

Sorry for my bad english and long post. (I'm Swedish!)

Just go for a panel filter - easy, cheap and just as effective as most induction kits. If you really want an induction kit go for the BMC CDA - this is enclosed and so will not suck in any warm engine air, be warned that this is not cheap.

EDIT: Welcome to BOO btw :)

Hi welcome to the site,if you want the sound diffrence? go for any cheap universal kit, they are all basicly the same and give the same advantages if any, apart from the sound.

But if you are after any gains in performance and as you say making it breath better then it is an enclosed INDK you want its a combination of cold air and the amount of it getting to the engine that makes the diffrence, and the INDK is best at doing that ,BMC and some others are expensive,i would consider RAM AIR not cheap but cheaper and every bit as good.

dont expect masive gains it want give you mutch.

Cheers Scotty

Thankyou both for your welcome to this site. Internet is really nice! The collected knowledge here is way greater than you could ever imagine back in the day...

Well mostly I need the fuel economy, so I will go for a more expensive kit then. Thankyou for your tips!

I will post back with my findings :)

if ure going for noise on a 5 pot a k&n sounds like nothing else.

i have one on mine and it sounds and feels alot better than my previus wich was a green cottonen powrflow kit.

I thought the CDA sounded better than the K&N IMHO.

Also, K&N suck donkey balls :)

Oh dear lord in heaven! The "Ram Air" kit will et me back about £160 which is more than 10% of what I paid for the car!

If the winnings in fuel economy/performance are barely noticable, then "no thanks", and I'll keep it standard.

The sound though, is still nice, so I guess I'll go with some sort of cheaper K&N stuff or other brand "cone" -filter.

I'll get back to you with my findings. Thanks for your help so far.

Thomas have a look on ebay,at
item NO. 190126120255 it is as good as ones costing more than double.

and item NO. 290112433441 the hose you will need, goes to the AFM to the INDK and from there on to your cold air scoop that is on the car already.

My camera is abroad with my wife at the moment, but i can post pics of the hole set up for you if you need.

Cheers Scotty.

im afraid with anything like a panel filter or open cone filter or even closed filter you will not see any improvement with mpg (fuel economy)

this is really 2 fold, one cientific and the other psychological

firstly, with an improved flow filter the engine is taking more air in, the afm notices this and adds fuel accordingly to keep the mix right (rather than running len or rich) so the mpg increases from a basic mechanical side of things from the combustion engine side of things

secondly, when you hear the 5 pot coming on song through the less restrictive filter you will smile like a hooligan and invariably stick your toe down and get her singing at the top of her voice :):):) its sooo hard not to, i should know, i crashed mine because i couldnt see where i was going i was smiling that much :(

if you can restrain yourself yuo will still have a noticeable noise improvement and will not affect the mpg too much, but it will go down rather than up im afraid
