Hello all. Any help on this would be appreciated. I have a 2003 mk2 punto 1.2. Drove fine all summer but come winter it has developed a strange fault: The car starts just fine and pulls off fine BUT, if I then have to stop, at traffic lights for instance, it feels like I'm pulling away in 5th - the revs drop and it stalls. I then start it up and it drives fine for the rest of the day, even if I leave the car for a while. There is also occasionally a high pitched whirring sound from the engine area which rises in pitch with the revs when driving but this only lasts about 15 secs. It literally only happens first thing in the morning. Any ideas - thank you.

Clean the butterfly valve in the throttle body and the idle control valve as these can cause weird running issues

Ensure no brakes are binding due to water jammin handbrake cables up

But these hesitation could be a simple plug and ht needing replacement to an engine that struggling on compression

Ziggy

High pitched whirring when cold could be belt related. I would take off the alternator belt and start and see if the noise is still there. If it is it could be timing belt related. The 8V motor is safe but the 16V is not.
