Technical Any idea what im on about?!

o.k well il explain this as best i can in words but when i drive my car there is smell from the exhausts that doesnt smell right. Some have said it smells like its running rich, it smells very pungent and a sort of gas smell :yuck: ??? Any idea's that spring to mind or ya reckon i should just take it to fiat or another garage to get it checked over!
Also another point to add is that i can only get 80mph out of it!? running on 3 cylinders? TBO i ent got a clue so let me know if U do lads

i once accidently forgot to reconnect a HT lead, so the engine was only running 3 cylinders, acceleration was poo and after a hundred metres or so i had a very strong eggy smell. reconnected and was all fine!

na they seem to be fine, its more of a gassy smell than eggy. worth just taking it to fiat??

Exhaust gases if any sensors are out of range the ECU will use its own back-up values to decide what fuel to send into engine these values are usually rich as in cold start conditions when car is hot slow running should be poor... Is the exhaust noisy at all do any smoke come from the exhaust what colour i know my mate that had a cinqs aint sure if a punto has a crankcase the gas smell could be coming from there if it has it.. Was the car just the same when running it with the standerd air filter before you changed. ?

yea was the same but...... recently my backbox had completly snapped off the from the mid section and think this is when i first noticed the smell. i had it welded back together with a sleve around the pipe but think it may have snapped agen so the fumes are'nt running through the backbox! but that doesnt explain why i can only get 80moh?!

I was lossing power badly last month then one night started it up sounded like a subaru my backbox had snapped off from the middle section i have the same car as you only cost me 110 the middle section and backbox a hole in the exhaust can burn up fuel quicker and also loss power the gas smell is prob coming from under the car maybe poor welding to the exhaust or its just breaking up again...

yea was looking to get a new stainless steel middle pipe and new backbox. £110 for the standard or stainless one m8? only 105miles on half a tank, doesnt sound right does it??

It was standerd middle and backbox 110 was total inc labour and vat.. Yeah m8 dont sound right at all sounds like the exhaust might also be the lambda sensor.

yea where are those sensors?! keep hearing about them but duno where to find it to change it.

Could possibly be the cat going, they smell eggy when there knackered.

odd smells, low power, sounds like an exhaust blockage, usually the cat breaking down from the inside.

take the exhaust off, including the cat, and see if its faster.
