Hi All
First time posting for me. I'm an Alfa and Fiat kind of guy. I have an Alfa GTV and a 155. I also have a Multipla JTD! My Alfa buddies laugh. Today they really laugh because this morning whilst backing the Multi out of the drive I think the cam belt let go. On turning the key all I get is a nasty clunk. I thought the starter was stuck and so towed the Multi to the top of the hill and tried to bump start and I couldn't get the engine to turn over at all. So I guess it's more serious than I thought. It's only done 60K and it's been reguarly serviced. In fact it was booked in for a service to take place later this week. What sort of damage is likely to have been caused? I bet I'm not the first to have this happen.
Cheers

hi! welcome to the forum
check to see if its is the cambelt, if so you could have done some serious damage by trying to bump start it, if not it could be the fuel pump or fuse has gone if the engine is turning over

Cheers for the welcome.

It was actually the AA man that tried to bump start it! He was a nice man – a very nice man – but he diagnosed a flat battery and then a sticky starter motor. He tried bump starting it to free up the starter. But the engine was locked solid. My local Alfa/Fiat specialist is looking at it tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

A happy ending.

Just got the Multi back all fixed and serviced with a new cambelt.

And the problem wasn't a busted cambelt. It was the aircon pump. Apparently the little clutch and the pump housing fell to bits and jammed the pulley which stopped the engine turning over. The bits must have been jammed in there really tight because me and the AA man tried bump starting the thing down a pretty steep gradient and when the clutch was lifted the front wheels just skidded! Suprised we didn't do more damage really.
