amp trouble

ok i got a **** amp (1000 splx).......not something i like to boast about but it helps the sound level in my car!!




the other day i had music blasting and heard a crackling.....thinking that it was jus a loose connection to the speaker i went round the boot to investigate.......... i then foolishly proceeded to pull a positive wire from the speaker and check it it was ok i then took the other wire and.........it was like the 5th november..... both wires touched.........now all i get, alongside a green light is a red light on my amp when i power the head unit up i can hear the "pop" of the speakers/amp so theres power goin there just no sound!! any ideas ppl any help appreciated




(the worst thing is i now have to listen to the missus moaning whilst im driving)

Not an expert, but some amps have build in fuse, check that.
But I dont think that exists in all - if any but the one I opened lol

cheers sven yea i checked for an internal fuse and this one hasnt got one

Usually the green led is the power light and the RED one is the protection mode. This could be many things but usually means that the earth is not present.

Look at the earth lead and see if it has got a good connection.

cheers for the response ........................ all leads are soundly connected earth point rubbed down to bare metal no break in any of the other leads fuse is fine......??????

eot exactly does it do? are both ld permanantly on or does it go green the red? if it does the latter uve blown sum curcuits in the amp! i had 2 ave min fixed a while ago cos it was doin that!

m8, the same happened to mine, the fuse in the amp wire (located in a holster in the wire somewher near the battery) had gone, simply replaced it and off i went...

Check the audio lead if its crackling. Move it around at the amp end while the stereo is on.

cheers kev.......it goes grenn then immediatly red and stays there ..........how much did it cost u get yers fixed???? do they need a pcb layout diagram or sommat like that ......and oh does ne1 know where to get 1 ????

i took it 2 a specialist car audio shop they took it 2 bits re soldered all the joints etc and installed new resistors etc! cost me about £30 i think
