american xbox games on uk xbox?

hey all,

found an amazing gaming store here in Canada, so cheap but before i buy anything does anyone know if they're any different to uk games or is an xbox game the same everywhere?

I think they're different, Canada and the U.S. use NTSC - U/C system where as we use PAL.

aww no, i did do a quick read up on them but nobody seemed to know, or some said they fine and others said they weren't, i actually have the xbox with me so i might rent one to try it

Canada & USA are Region 1 for dvd/bluray coding, whereas Europe is Region 2..

Only machines bought in Region 1 will play Region 1 coded Discs. same for 2/3/4,,,

if the box for the game/DVD say Region1 then it will only play in Region1..

However... if it say 0 (zero) or ALL then they will work in Europe (and pretty much everywhere else)

The box might say;

Regions 1/4 or 1/2 or any combination of 1/2/3/4/5/6.. these are the area codes..

the one you need to find are any with a 2 or ANY or 0..

Your console in the UK will be set to region 2 and there is no way "Legally" around this...

If it is a DVD your after then you can buy "Region Free" units that allow them to play any coded disc..

But sadly this doesnt include any games console.

I'm staying with the gf's dad who only moved from England 2 year ago so still has a lot of English electricals so has a couple of transformers.

Incase you actually did want to know what transformer it was, it says powerbright step up & down 500w transformer

PS3s are region protected, but i think they tend to be regionfree games.... or at least used to be with the early games. Xbox might be similar? Though it is microsoft....

just had a drive to the game store, all of the ones i looked at mentioned no region but all had designed for NTSC, my games are all PAL.

A lot of 360 games aren't region locked, EA ones usually are, and some others, Google for a list. They will usually also try and connect to servers for their region, which could make online play laggy.

[edit] sorry, just noticed you said Xbox, I assume you mean a 360 nowadays though.
