I had a Pug 306 Mot'd yesterday, Serviced by a friend and myself 2mths ago and we sorted everything out that needed doing for the MOT, drove only 1000 miles in this car since.

Took it to Volvo MotorWorld in Swindon for an MOT. I knew the radiator was on it's way out but Rad weld does the trick, this is only a part time car!.

Anyway I went back to pick up the car and they said it had failed and needs £1111.43 Yes over 1K, to resolve!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I said, then said it again......

So I said I'll pay for the MOT and right the car off as it's worth £1500 on a good day. After getting home chilling out my friend had another garage look at it, ready for this..... Cost to pass MOT is £200, then he said you will have to buy a new rad soon. That's it! Phew I said.....

Why was Volvo Motorworld trying to ripp me off! if they said £200 I would have said yes!!!
So stay clear if your in the Swindon, Wiltshire area:idea:

Did you ask MotorWorld for a breakdown of the work required to pass the MOT? If so, I would seriously speak to the manager of that store and ask him to justify the work that they were asking to do.

Cheers folks. I did ask for the break down but he said nothing about. this work to pass MOT, this work to get the car perfect...

You live and learn.

Had it re-tested by some one else and half the things Volvo said needed fixing did not.

What happened to trust and respect is my querry...

for MOTs you should only go to places where they dont fix cars, only MOT them. if they fail you they wont get any extra money (you get repairs done elsewhere) and they'll lose time on the free retest so they dont want to fail you. there's a list of such places on moneyexpert.com

or find a place where you can build up a relationship with the staff, let them know you wont get any work done there, then they have nothing to gain if they fail you. i do this, everyone who works there knows i'll do the repairs myself so they dont bother failing it for things that dont need doing. if they do it wastes their time more than mine as they need the ramps for other MOT's, they dont want me to come back in a couple of days for a re-test.

wheres this list of MOT and no service/ repair, had a look on moneyexpert.com and couldn't find it?
