Hi,
This is my first post so apologies in advance as i'm new to this.
My wife has had many panda's over the years. She has a pink 1000 fire now, nice and discreet but it is up to me to keep it running.
Battery has been over charging so suspected the alternator regulator. Have put a new battery on it and am getting 14.8 steady voltage at battery terminals when running.
Can anyone help me identify the regulator and describe the test procedure for it?

I have fitted a known working regulator from her previous panda with the same specs and am still getting too high charge voltage.
Is there another cause for this condition?

Welcome,

Please have a read thru couple pages from the top.
Unfortunately in italian but google translate will sort you out.

14,8V seems to be on the high side but still acceptable.

Make sure all connections are as clean and tight as possible, inspect earth cable.
How old was the previous battery?

thats nothing, i only get 13.8 volts no matter what i do. the original 45 amp alternator was changed for a punto's 90 amp alternator and still i get the same voltage! :/

as far as i know, the only charging regulator is the one built into the alternator. our pandas have very basic electronics systems.

edit, man what an awesome manual! thanks for sticking that up on here! :D

Many thanks for the reply.:)
All the research i've done suggests that a voltage of 14.8 and higher is overcharging the battery.
I don't know the age of the original battery that began to stink of rotten eggs ( not good!) swapped it for the one from her previous panda which was fine although a couple of years old.
She drove a couple of miles and seemed fine to drive but when I checked it was hot and leaking fluid everywhere.
I have since put the old alternator from her previous panda on which is the same spec and a brand new battery.
The reading when running is 14.8v so i am reluctant to let her drive anywhere as am paranoid about ruining the new battery.
I've tried to translate the doc but with no success, i'm new to this sort of thing so will ask my son if he can help.
I will check all connections and let you know.

if it smells of rotten eggs, its because the higher voltage is burning any sulphur crystals from off the plates.

you can recover a car battery if it wont take charge by sticking 15-16 volts into it for an hour or so. smells bad but burns off all the sulphur that stops it charging :D

wish i could help you more with the issue :/

No worries.
I will endeavour to get the doc translated and check all connections and go from there.
Thanks again.
