Airbag control unit compatibility

Hello,

I am trying to fix the airbag system in a friend's Bravo (1.6 SX from 1991). The airbag light went on and the owner took the car to Fiat, where they diagnosed that the airbag control unit needed to be replaced, which would cost about 1000 Euro (new control unit plus cables, because connectors have changed in the mean time). This would probably be more than the value of the car. The original control unit has serial number 00464793640 or 00464793610 (not 100% sure about one digit); on
ebay I have purchased a control unit with serial number 46768868, that the seller swears to be compatible. Does anybody know where I can find reliable information about such compatibility and whether after installation the new control unit needs to be initialized in some way or reprogrammed?

In general you just plug it in, naturally they must be physically identical- per fiat eper (parts catalogue) here is the list. Its for a bravo from 98 up, cant tell for sure if its the same as in the bravo to 98 - you have to try it out.

One more thing - when installing the new ECU disconnect the battery and reconnect when you are done with the install - and there may be a possibility that you will have to go and get a AirBag reset done after the install.
