What should happen when i press the recycle button next to the a/c one in my bravo. It appears to do sod all !!! I've tested it behind oil belching old escorts etc and the aroma still gets into the car. Should anything cover the air intake by the pollen filter ???? Any ideas appreciated, Ta :)

It switches on the circle air mode on.
That means that the air isnt sucked in the car, but circulated (no outdoor air comes in).
It closes the intake of the went system - the air in the car is sucked and spitted back in to the car.

The pollen filter is under the cover whit 2 screws and that is the only cover.

It doesent stop smells just particles of dust / pollen. If you want to stop smells, buy the Bosch one whit cole, but it stops the air intake by 20 to 25 %.

Think u misunderstood what i meant guys. I know pollen filters are merely for crud in the air etc. what i meant was, should some kind of flap cover over it/under it when the button is on to stop outside air entering - how does it block the external air flow coz mine doesn't seem to at all.

Take out the pollen filter and you will see a spongey yellow part when you look in the opening where the pollen filter goes.
You will be able to see the blades of the motor when the circle mode is off, and when its on, you will see only the sponge barrier (no motor can be seen)

Cheers Sven, that's the info i was looking for. I'll go and check it now.

Thanks

p.s. if it's spongey type material wouldn't that let air thru from outside? May be working afterall and it's just letting thru some external air as well

It is spongy, but has some sort of layer on it that cant let the air or anything through.

Inside the car, when you push the air recycle button, there is an electronic flap behind the console which turns over a flap like a vent does when you open and close it by hand and it shuts off air from outside.

Maybe yours is busted if its still letting external air inside.

Another point you may want to remember is that usually, by the time you notice the smell it's in your car already so pressing the recycle button at this point will merely recirculate the bad air.

Mine is busted, the solenoid thingy that opens/closes the flap is gone. So my mechanic just sealed it (the flap). I just have to wind down the window if I want external air in.

Wondering if the solenoid is available from somewhere?

Well my flap is busted, doesn't move a millimetre so that explains all. Can you get to it from the intake opening or is a fan out job?

Also the recirculate air button helps the air con/climate control when it is put to full on cold trying to cool the boiling interior of the car. If you have fresh air coming in the air con has to work alot harder and eventually knackers it. Had mine regassed today and it is now excellent - like a fridge now, very welcome when it is 32 degs outside. It was ok before but felt it had lost bite so to speak. £39.99 at Fiat dealer and took 40 mins.
