Ok, I am desperate now for a new filter.

Seen a couple at my local motor factors. One was a steel gauze filter and the other was a cotton gauze filter. They are indentical apart from different material

Can anyone tell me which one would be best please??

I know the standard box is good but I ripped it out along time ago and lost it. (I blame my youth)

Unless anyone has got a oem box, pipe and stuff for a 155HGT???

Also, how do people stop dirt coming up through the arch and onto to the filer??

Thanks in advance

personally id go for the cotton gauze as it should have better particle filtration over the metal gauze

as for the dirt through the arch.... i have no arch liner in :( really should sort that out sooner or later tbh.. the easiest option would be to have the arch liner in and cover the slats in it with something, be it gaffa / duct tape or fibre glass, just something that will stick and stop the crap comeing through. insead i buy a cheapy induction filter from halfords every whenever as there is no point cleaning it for the sake of a score, just make sure it doesnt get too dirty

Regarding the dirt, I modified the bottom half of my airbox to keep the slats covered this also enabled me to use the existing feeds. Seemed silly ripping it all out when most of it could be re-used and put to use.

Problem with that is that my airbox has been all ripped out. This was due to the first air filter being too big for the box plus it has a large hole at the bottom of it.

In regards to the metal gauze filter, it did seem to very fine holes and was covered in that oil stuff they put on cotton ones to stick the small particles too it. Would that make any difference???

Also, the holes in the arch lining. Are they needed for anything or can they be covered up??

Thanks

I used fibreglass to cover all the slots on my arch liner. Of course, when i recently had the bumpers off for a bit of painting, i didn't put it back on. oops. air filter is probably filthy.
i'll get round to it when i take it off the road next week though.(in favour of driving the skoda i just bought)
