Hi,
the air con on my 2001 jtd hlx, doesn't work. The light comes on on the button but thats all that happens.

Has anyone tried the do it yourself refill kit available from halfords and the like? it comes with a pressure gauge to test if it is a low gas problem and a can of refridgerant. It's pretty costly but cheaper than a regas at a garage.

Seems a small ish can ~500-600ml but then I don't know what the capacity of refridgerant is in the system.

Are there any other things to check before I either try this or take it to a garage?

Any suggestions most welcome

cheers

Do you get Error Cli on the milage display ?
Is the magnetic clutch turning on ? (does the engine loose power after you turn it on - or do the revs go down and up again when you switch it on)

You could also check the piping for splits and cracks. My aircon has just gone and the radiator pipe has rubbed through the aircon pipe.

You could ring round aircon garages. The one that I took mine to did a free check. So cost me nothing to find out that the pipe was split.

Hi Sven,
I don't get an error message on the display, and the engine revs do not change when the button is pressed and there is no loss of power.

I have checked the fuses and they seem to all be ok. I have also checked pipes etc for obvious damage and that also seems ok. Does the system have a pressure check that stops the compressor from engaging if the refridgerant is low?

Will also have a look around locally to see if anyone does a free system check.

Thanks for the suggestions

Yes they do. It will just need regassing. The revs wont drop if the pressure check fails so therefore wont activate the compressor to cause the drop in revs.
