Hello everyone, back again to get some of your wisdom

so the MOT advisory point is

All coil springs corroded

how expensive do you think it`ll cost to fix this before next years mot

and what is it?

thanks guys, now this might sound daft but sarah isnt interested in lowerin it, she likes her wee car just as it is. so i would think standard springs would be cheaper, we have a mechanic who will do the work(cash in hand, very reasonable and i trust him), but i was hopin to get the parts myself to save on cost and also to save him the effort in ordering them.

Hi is the cinq an sx or a sporting ? , because i have front and rear springs and you can have them for £10 but collection only due to wheight and that , if your interested and not too far away . cheers

where you from? i have two sets of sporting springs taking up space

hi brooky, its actually a sceicento, so yours will probably be from a cinq, cheers though(y)

i shouldve pointed out that its a sporting as well, but cheers to pinder as well for the offer, and dave i`ll give that a go

and sarah thinks that binki is adorable, especially the photo that s/he is pretending to be asleep

Sei / Cinq springs are interchangeable

I also have a set lying vacant....

It could easily be surface rust after the powder coat wears off, but it could also mean the springs are cracked!

we are in fife, scotland, so probably miles away from everyone that has responded, but i`ll put up a wanted advert and see how it goes. have to say thanks again to everyone, really appreciate the help!

the key point is that you received a yellow advisory note, if the springs were really in a bad way they would have failed the test.

i've never heard of that 'advisory' point before, what kind of corrosion is on the springs. just about every car over 3 years old may have surface rust and to be honest it will take one heck of a lot of rust to eat through a coil spring to the point of failure.
springs normally fail the MOT because they have fractured and i've never seen one thats broke cos it rusted through.
maybe next year you should try another MOT centre.
