Technical ABS failure light

I am getting an ABS failure warning light on my Stilo JTD MW. I have had this intermittently over the last year but now it constant. Problem is that the car has now failed the MOT.

Does anyone have an idea what I should look at? I am borrowing a code reader, will this tell me the exact source of the problem or just a rough idea? Failing that is there any way of turning of the ABS warning lights on the dash. I know this would compromise safety under normal circumstances, but having learnt to drive in cars with none of these features I think I can cope. And I need to get the car through the MOT driving my 4x4 to work is costing me a small fortune in desiel.

A fault code will give a rough idea of where the fault lies but will need further investigation.

The car will still fail an MOT test if the ABS light is permanently off. To pass, the light must come on and go off at the appropriate times during the test.
