Hi all, newbie here. I have purchased a punto abarth 188 as a none runner. Was told the car had no keys and previous owner had brought some second hand parts to try put right. This included a new body control unit. To the best of my knowlage i have put back the original parts and had a auto locksmith code me in a new remote key using his magic computer. My immob light goes out when inserted in barrel so no fault there but i have no spark. I've changed the crank and cam sensors but still nothing. I'm getting fuel through. Plugged it in to get 2 codes. U1600 and u1702. As far as i can work out u1600 is some sort of imobilser fault and u1702 is steering. I've checked the feed to the coils and getting no pulse. Main relay fine. Does anyone have any ideas?? Don't want to start buying ecu's and things like that on a guess. If anyone else has come accross this it would be a great help. May turn out that i've brought a lemon but the price was too good to turn down. Cheers in advance

Thanks for the reply. Not sure what to say about those other post's, all I can make from that is it may need and engine ECU. The previous owner produced the old crushed key (driven over) without the immob capsule, just the central locking chip. My locksmith did the best he could with reparing it and what do ya know i have remote central locking. He said he has not coded that to the car so must have original body comp on. Electrics are not my strong point and am unsure of how to test the ecu. I know the coils are controled from the ECU pulse's but like i say, not sure how to test it. Any clues?

Update, changed ecu, body comp and keys. No joy still no spark. Spoken to an autoelectrician who says it may have anoth ecu behind the dash which needs resetting. Anyone else heard of this?

Like i said i've changed the body computer but what do u mean about the coil. Never heard that before

Defo got earth. No live from ecu. I have found a white cable below the steering column that has been cut. Not sure what it is or goes. Checked with probe and no power to it. Ebay here we come. If the immob runs through the body comp and ecu and they've been changed, what else could be stopping it and why do i still get the same code with new ecu?? U1600/u1602
