:bang: Can anyone please help me out?

My alternator light has been glimmering for a while now, checked the voltage coming out 12.9v under load so I thought no probs probably on the way out get a new one.

Checked the voltage reg. after removal, high resistance (should be 85 ohm aparently) so i thought there is the problem chuck the new alternator on, job jobbed.

Um No.

new alternator still has charge light glimmering away.

12.8v showing at battery.

Ive checked the field connector, battery voltage going in, voltage drop of approx 10v accross the regulator(Is this right?)

Ive checked all the connectors I can find but I just cant get the damn thing to charge.

Any suggestions?

Ben

Try checking the resistance of the main cable from the engine bay to the battery, I'm willing to bet that the cable is rotten and the resistance is draining the volts away. Next check the earths as they are just as likely to rot.

The only other thing to check is the cable to the back of the alternator that drops from the rear upper crossmember - if the engine mounts are going soft the cable gets pulled on a lot as the engine comes under load which strangely enough does nothing for the quality of connection.
