I have woken up to a letter from my insurance company (ADMIRAL) talling me that becuase I got nicked for speeding by a camera in July last year that they have added £214.59 to my insurance this year back dated to May!

How can they do this! I told them 2 days after receiving the fine last year! I am sure the only reason is because of the recent accident and see it as a way of making money.

£215 for an SP50?

Has anyone else had this?

I Know the feeling

Hi Nige,

Sorry to hear about the shcocking news regarding the increase in your insurance. I know how you feel....for the 80SX I paying £203 a month. I know that this sounds stupidly high, but I have had three accidents which are still pending and will be found in my favour. I did think of cancelling my insurance policy, that would then mean having to pay for the work done on my car (there was alot of work done...big bill), so unfortunatly they have me by the short and curllies.

Admiral can't just added the SP50 onto your policy part way through the life of it, it must be because you have claimed on your insurance to get the work done.

Cheer up me old cocker, just laugh at how much I am paying :)

Thanks for your sympathy, hoever the £215 was on top of £750 I was already paying.

My HGT was so smashed it went straight off to the repair centre, wasn't a case of me claiming!

I am meeting the guy from Admiral at 11:00 this morning as they are coming to take a statement.

Bad news , do what I do - change every year so they
can't do come backs like this the b@stards !

Ouch

A conviction such as an SP50 will be considered for anything up to 5 years after the offence. In most cases it will load your premium. The problem with dealing direct with insurance companies such as Admiral, is that they underwrite their own business, meaning they don't work off a panel of insurers like the AA for example. Where one company may frown on a minor conviction like a SP30, another may even let it go and not load any premium.

£215 does seem a bit steep, but then it depends on how fast you were going etc. As an SP50 relate to a motorway speeding conviction, I can only guess you were doing slghtly more than 70mph? You should always tell your insurance company straight away about any convictions, however minor. Even if you are mid-term through a policy you will be deemed a greater risk and therefore will probably have to pay for it. If you don't tell them, in their eyes it's money they are owed.

They will always check your past history before making a decision on any payout. Don't give them any excuse or you may well live to regret it. I hope your banana car gets sorted soon (even though you wound me up a little bit earlier!). :)

Thing is I DID tell them last year after I got it.

However, I also told them 6 years ago that I got married and the STILL have her maiden name on the policy. Also, we have had 2 claims since then and both times the details of the name change were made. This year....still on the policy in the maiden name.

I also have to ring them each year to tell them that the car is not garaged and every year they put the policy up but dont amend their records!

Basically they are the best part of ****ing useless but they have always been the most reasonable price, including AA and RAC (I am a member as well!) and all the on-line ones, direct line, that ****ing nodding dog one (who I wouldnt use just because that advert!)

Nigel,

I have never had a decent quote out of Admiral, but last year got a quote from eaglestardirect.co.uk for £450 full comp with protected NCD and business use for my Marea 2.4HLX, this year they have protected the NCD for "life" (ie while I still stay with them) but put the premium upto £504, but going back to their website I got it down to £480 again.

esure.com was also good, £440 for a similar level of cover.

Good luck

Garry

Insurance are bummers

I live in Malta so I cant offer any advice on this subject. I hear that insurance and road licencing is very tough on you guys therefore limiting choice on the type of vehicle that you can drive...not to mention that the fuel you pump into your beloved machines costs a bomb. But at least there is one thing that you guys can look forward to....you have roads where you can fully exploit your engines for hours on end.

All I know is that insurance are bummers....anywhere in the world....Their speciality is to find excuses to raise premiums every year....last year it was because of that Bin Laden sucka. I wonder whats next.....maybe Sadam could hit our Bravo's with one of his scud missiles?!
