Punto (Mk1) A cold power steering mystery

Good morning everyone, just wanted to throw this into the mix,.
Has anyone EVER had a power steering problem like this, about a month ago my wifes "x" reg punto power steering packed up, not wanting to pay hundreds of ££££ to get it sorted (im way too tight) we decided to run it without until the MOT in October then scrap it. Well, the last 4 days here in Suffolk has turned cold and icy in the mornings, and guess what, back came the power steering on the way to her works, but has packed up again by the time she comes home in the afternoons.

Bizarre or what

Belt slipping?

If you've a Mk1, the solution is to hurl the PAS in the bin, turn the strut top mounts through 180 degrees, and remember to inflate the front tyres.

Few cars need PAS less than a Mk1 Punto.

Mk2s, on the other hand................
