About to get my first car, a 900cc Fiat Cinqucento. I am getting quotes of £4117.18 a year, third part only. :(

But anyway, plans.

> K&N induction kit with heat shield and extra ducting from the front.
> Completely stripped out behind the front seats
> Sportex cat-back exhaust
> some colour coding of badges and things
> Suble stickers of some sort
> 13" Compomotive alloys
> Spax lowering springs 40mm

Is it a torsion bar on the back? :)

4 grand! on a £500 899 cinq? and third party only!! Id get the bus. You are seriously mad to pay that

Dont get a k+n they sit in the wrong place on a cento engine and draw hot air in so decrease perfromance, get something else.

Torsion bar - do you mean ARB? they dont have one on an 899, get one from a sporting model

So how do i lower the rear of the car? Springs?

And have you got a picture of where the K&N sits? I am not too fussed about heat soak as it's not going to add enough power to make a difference i just want it for the sound mostly.

And i live in Liverpool £4000 is cheap, i got a quote of £9877.84 TPO on a 1.4 Saxo.

Nope, its not a torsion bar, its two trailing arms with coil springs and seperate damper units.

I hope that insurance quote includes the mods.

Where in the world are you?

Cheers

That's without the mods, if i tell them i have them then only 2 companies in the country will insure me and that is for over £10,000 TPO with £1000 excess:cry:

Garaged, upto 1000 miles a year, TPO, student etc

I know insurance is high, but that is ridiculous for mainland UK.

Have you actually phoned them, or are you just checking online.

Phoned a few of the cheapest and they refused to insure me al together?

And the rest are online, it's just not fair - i hear of people complaining of paying £2000 on a 1.6. If i got a quote of £2000 on a 900cc i would wet myself with excitement tbh

What have you done to cause such panic in the insurance industry?

Nothing what so ever, i just dont understand why it is so high?

It's the same on my motorbike now, its £338 a year TPO everyone else i speak to outside Liverpool it's about £100.

I dont know what i am meant to do, and parents wont let me on there policy. Or let it be there car and me as a named driver either. There is really nothing i can do

I understand Liverpool is regarded as the car crime capital of the western world, but it does seem really high.

When you think about it, £4500 for car and insurance, but before maintenace, tax and fuel, probably means you could afford to spend £100 a week, every week on taxis, and still be better off.

I'd be getting an account at the local mincab office.

I dont want the car for transport, i want it because they are my passion. I adore cars, always have. I have my bike now as it's all i can get at 16. I just want a car so badly, but cant afford the insurance, even with 1 years NCDB it is still £4000+

Even if i get a well payed job, i am not willing to pay £5000 on a car in insurance alone.

Just done a quote but changed my address to rural Wales and it has dropped to £1200 :confused::confused:

It's true when they say life isn't fair.

Liverpool really isn't anything like as bad as at least one city in the east Midlands, but insurance companies are, well, insurance companies.........

Insurance here does seem to be very much governed by post code, to the point where one new development even had its post code changed from L8 (Toxteth) to L3, although the signs still say "Welcome to Toxteth". All pretty asinine as Toxteth is generally a pretty safe place to live.

Stop pratting around ringing companies -- find yourself an old fashioned Insurance Broker. Be prepared to accept a high excess.

What do you mean insurance broker? Such as who? Not a compant :S

And Toxteth is probably the worst part of Liverpool?

Sometimes getting a parent on your insurance will lower the premium.

That does sounds very pricey, my son (20) was paying £5000 for his '54 plate Clio 182.

Maybe cheaper to move. ;)

James, if you have passed your test within the last year have you considered PassPlus???
Maybe be worth asking a few insurance companies if PassPlus would lower the premium.

Look in Yellow Pages. A broker is an individual who deals with a shedload of insurance companies.

Toxteth is by no means the worst part of Liverpool. Parts of Kensington, Norris Green, Croxteth and Anfield are much more scary.
