We have had our 1.4Multi Air Pop Star for 16 months. Have to say we are very pleased with it - apart from a dealer rectified brake issue it has run faultlessly.

Did about 500 miles over the past week or so travelling around the UK and again very pleased. On the motorway I find the sport mode is useful with its more weighted steering, and in general sports mode is a lot of fun, if thirsty.

The engine I think has loosened up nicely now.

By my calculation we have averaged 40mpg since purchase.

I have the 2.0 Multijet AWD and that also is VERY thirsty in Sport Mode but 45-47mpg for my normal usage

Imo sports mode on the model you have should make no difference to the thirstyness. With an auto 4wd for example it will as the gear chosen is lower and 4wd is permanently engaged. However for your model neither of these apply.

Sport mode on the Multijet makes a real difference in performance. I know any remap in a Diesel generally makes more of a return than in a Petrol - I presume thats what happening when Sports mode is selected? Anyone know?

I don't know about diesel but my 2.4 petrol devours fuel in sports mode like a giant parched beast. Generally, I think the sports mode consumes more fuel simply because in this mode the car accelerates too fast for the gearbox to follow, which results in a lot more 3000+ RPM action.
