Hello. I'm about to purchase a 81 spider 2000 with red interior. Carpets, seats, door, and the center console are all red. I've always seen the console as beige or black. Can someone give me the history of such a Red interior. It is a US car - was this available only in the US. Was it a special order? Please help me learn about this interior. Much appreciated.

I too, have only ever seen 124 Spiders with black or beige consoles. Various suppliers of interior trim in the U.S. seem to confirm this also.
However, there are several 124 Spiders with red interiors shown on pinterest.com, some even have the red console like your pic shows.
Maybe try posting your query on the website below , this seems to be where many of the U.S. owners of 124 Spiders (both classic and new) hang out.

these exotic interior colors were available for the Spider 2000 models from 1979 til 1982!
Beside the standard beige and black color there were available blue (79-82), red (79-82) and brown (79) which was also described as sattle or cocoa.
Oh: red plus white were also available for the interior of the first AS series, but only in Italy!
