Hi everyone! I`m new here. I thought about swapping the engine of my dad`s 2006 Grande Punto (currently rocking a star-jet engine). Firstly me and my dad thought about swapping it to t-jet 1.4 (120bhp). But, recently one of our friends bought a Bravo HGT. It sounded amazing  , so, now we want to swap it to the 2litre 5 cylinder that is found in the Bravo HGT. Is this possible? Also, if we are going to do this, we will definitely change the ECU and transmission, and probably will add an LSD. Thx for reading this thread, and have a nice day:)

to much work for only a little more power

its such a different engine and from a completely different era, you might as well be fitting a 5 cylinder out of an Audi TT or a volvo, literally everything will have to be hacked together from scratch.

Isn't the 5 cylinder closely related to the 1.8 HGT engine? - pretty sure they're both the Alfa / Fiat 'modular' block.

Which means a Punto transplant may not be too tricky... mounts and bolt patterns probably match.

Suspect a Punto is a little narrow, though!

The 1.8HGT is pretty much an Alfa engine, so a 2.0 TSpark may work!

they never fitted the Hgt engine to the grande, you have to remember the grande is in essence a Vauxhall.

You'd actually probably find a performance vauxhall engine that would fit more easily than the 5 cylinder, then again what ever you did the electronics would not be compatible and you'd need to make up your own management.

Engine swap questions come up from time to time & usually the very fact it's being asked answers a lot to me. Having little or no idea where to start is the first stumbling block. Already pointed out that it would be difficult & costly, the insurance, if you could get insurance would be sky high, the list goes on.

Now in saying all that, nothing is impossible in the car world...;) It's just a question how deep is your pockets, & I mean DEEEEP pockets.

Hi.
If you need any help with insurance at all for this type of conversion then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.
