..flat battery, and no fuel supply problems (see my other post)..

:D..car just completely died in Blackwall Tunnel- Thankfully God in his mercy towed us out with a few beats of an angelwing and we got into Greenwhich before it stopped working...

question..on a Uno 999, 1991, Fire engine-- how full should the fuel filter cannister be? the RAC guys all gave me different answers ?

And should the be a postivie or negative pressure in the fuel tank?

My 92 999cc fire engine Uno has positive pressure in the fuel tank. I belive it forces the fuel throught to the fuel injection.

My 93 999cc fire engined Panda has positive pressure in the tank - AIUI a consequence of the excess of pumped fuel returning to the tank from the injector.

That pump is in the tank.

With carburation the pump is on the engine and driven from the camshaft. It has a return pipe too, if Haynes is to believed ;)

The other Panda I look after is carbed.
It has a filter in the fuel hose immediately before the pump: it is generally half full ( or empty, depending on your preference :p )

That piece of hose split on said Panda - and was replaced with fuel proof hosing.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking [?]

...split in the fuel line?

Or could it be that the connections are not air tight...fuel pump is not pulling in petrol (which is at the bottom of the tank as I generally run the car till the empty light comes on), sucks in air....hence generally empty looking fuel filter cannister (in the engine bay)....

thats an option...

..also might explain why there's positive pressure, the system can suck in air but the only way out is via the carb...so it builds up...

...incidently the holding strap on the petrol tank has broken recently, probably caused by an expanding tank...

whaddya reckon chaps...[8)]

Fuel tank flopping about may also be a problem with the pipework at that end..

Aslo carp in the tank, if you run it on the fumes you guarantee everything gets sucked towards the pick-up..

If I had carp in my tank, I'd think something fishy was going on at my local Esso... ;):):p[)] Didn't it used to be 'put a tiger in your tank'? :D:D:D

I'll get me coat... [8)]
