is there any way i can have 2 headunits in my mk2 bravo hlx??? got the standard unit with cd changer under back seat, but wondered if i can wire an additional unit that plays dvd's into the glovebox? anyone got any good ideas if this is possible? dont really want to lose my cd changer and headunit if possible. or anywhere else i can put it? just purchased those sunvisor tft screens and want them wired in asap. :)

Smee make a custom housing right in the middle of his centre console. he took out the two centre vents and mounted it there.

Paul R on the other hand had a custom top cover made that housed a 2nd HU right above the original.

i took the standard dash and cut the vents out. then had a spare Renault megane facia adaptor laying about i fibreglassed it in place smoothed over and sprayed it silver (well dan did) i will be coming out again as i need to smooth some more and i dont like the silver so its going black.

ok i'm thinking about installing the 2nd unit in my glovebox!!!. how hard would it be to design an outer shell to house the unit and then fit it in glovebox?? what sort of materials can i go for.ie: wood and fibreglass etc. any pointers would be great :)what about wiring up to speakers etc.
think this shall be my mini project..just hope someone out there can help me with these little queries.

i can then post up mini blogs of how i'm gettin on :)

bit far away mate. u can make a second din to sit like pauls pretty easily. tafi made one out of mdf wasnt as sound as pauls but thats a one off proper job. the worlds ur oyster mate. u could fit it any where u like giving the time and materials. just think wat u want wats practical then plan where to put it

moving mine to the vents was the best thing i ever did. im 6ft5 so sit far away from dash. the stereo was just out of reach (a little bit of a stretch). now its perfect

cheers smee :) reason i want it in glovebox is cos, i want to run a dvd unit in there, got 2 sunvisor tft screens. so not really bothered about me being able to access the unit :) passenger will be watching and controlling it :)
one query- sjould i be able to run 2 headunits from the same point(if that makes sense)?
cheers

also i got an old headunit in cupboard, should i practise building a unit around that and see how i get on? what sort of mdf should i use..thin/thick..not sure so please be gentle with me.lol any more tips would be great

if it gonna even fit in glove box?

if so it will fit in the far corner only and u think u will need to cut some of ur glove box to do so.

if it was me. i would fit a front along the length of the glove box a little thicker than the stereo / dvd drive. make a top the same shape as the inside of the glove box so u got like a shelf.(trial and error, best use carboard to cut it and try cut it and try) this way u got a smalled glove box on top of ur dvd drive.

id use 12mm mdf its a good size to work with. then cover it in wadding and fabric.

ok after much thought and toying with the glovebox idea, i have now decided to put it under the rear seats next to my cd changer. i will have to cut a hole so i can access the unit, but hey its alot easier and its also out of sight, cos i can put piece of carpet in front of panel!

About wiring this baby up now....how do i run the power leads/speaker leads etc. can they be joined onto the existing stereos loom?? or would i need to get soldering iron out and make mods?? cheers

if i'm putting the dvd unit under my rear seats. can i use a rf modulator to send the signal via radio. that saves wiring up my speakers to headunit.??? would this work and would my standard head unit be able to pick up the signal?

Has your existing H/U not got an AUX in you can use instead ? .

not sure mate, got standard headunit in, with cd changer in rear. not sure if that uses aux socket or not???

tbh i dont know with the standard unit , perhaps someone else with one will know ? .

i can almost promise that the standard hu wont have an aux in... but you could run an fm modulator, i did this the first time i fitted the xbox, but the sound quality isnt that great...i have an fm mod if you are interested? i paid 40 for it, i dont expect anything near that for it but if you want offers to [email protected] ... although i might take a little while to reply as` hotmail refuses to work on my laptop???
