My 18 year old Myrtle has done 128,000mls, is now looking for parts described in signature.
Nearly everything is renewed except engine which its pukka, seats, and she's done the Highland 500 seven times, and 3500ml in the last 2 months.
But the poor thing needs parts...

Nice to be in the humble old Fiat forum.

Well 1.4 years later, I've tried several ways of getting a Flexplate but no-one wants to sell it unless I purchase the engine and gearbox.
Muppets!
Myrtle will now end in a scrap yard.

I'm pretty good at sourcing obscure parts, I can have a look. But what is a flex plate? Do you have a part no. you are trying to find?

A Flex Plate sits on the Converter that sits where a Flywheel should be on a Manual Gearbox. Instead of being on the engine it is in the front when the Bell housing is separated.
It has a ringear on it, so that the starter motor can turn the engine over.

Sadly I can't get a part number as Fiat are not giving it. They want £700 for a flimsy piece of plate with a gear on it. Most Breakers I've called haven't got a clue! Then others wont break the gearbox.

It's been hard trying to source one for 3 years. When the gear fails she'll go to the scrap yard after I've sold off everything I can on it, like 4 brand new tyres etc.

Pity. She could go for another 5 years with the ringear.
Cheap to run. Only £700/year compared to my 2020 Ford Focus currently at £2500/year to run. The 2018 change to Euro 6 Standard has killed the combustion market for spare parts. I.E. A simple £1 manufacturing cost for a Thermostat for the Ford Focus has been encased in a plastic multipipe enclosure. Price from Ford £118. Only in the last few months have the spares market got hold of it and so I paid £84. The fitting etc came to £354. Yes just for a £1 Thermostat. Mad!

The Thermostat is always the important thing to change first before messing with any DPF's by the way.
Reason: The early driving with a thermostat that isn't functioning properly will upset the ECU and make incorrect assumptions as when to do a burn. I only know this because of many years of tinkering with cars and racing then like a complete and utter lunatic. I regret all my bad driving but it did give me knowledge.

I can only thank Jehovah my God for all this knowledge but it's useless in this life. I'm waiting for the next to use it fully.

Well I took an educational tangent tonight learning all about flex plates and the speedgear gear box.
I believe the part you need is 46530331.
For sale at Shop4Parts for the eye watering cost of £342.

Also available at a Turkish auto parts store for 132 Euros. You would have to ask if they would ship to UK, but most Turkish companies will they all after money at the moment. I myself have just got a DMF from Hungary for half the price available here.

Fairly sure somebody on the forum will be interested in your car if the body is good.

Turns out the guy in Türkiye maybe not a good bet!
4 times I’ve asked, seems to be stalling!

I’m thinking £350: might be the way to go.
Just trying to get hold of my mech to see when he can fit it in.

Thanks for your help. If I do buy one I won’t be selling the car then.

Not economical to spend to fix to then sell on. But like my diesel beast I'm investing in a DMF and clutch and with a bit of luck will have at least another 12 mths or more. Works out favourable then if the rest of the car is in good nick.

I’m capable but unable to repair my own vehicles, due to ill health. At £60 /hr minimum, it’s not affordable to have much done nowadays. My savings are ate up by my illness. Therefore my hobbies were done years ago and now I’m rationing. Any car under Euro 6 standard will be far more economical than anything in the future.
So, as many from other countries are saying old cars are a better bet! But, I’m at the point of affordability. Savings from not having a second vehicle versus convenience.

Euro 6 is so evil to a vehicle if it does less than approximately 20 miles per journey.
If you’re an engineer you can understand that reasoning.

Truly, a Land Rover is better than any vehicle today. It’s just so basic and non faulty, except for rust!

To be sure though before investing so much cash. Put your vin no. Into eper and drill down to the 10103 chapter to make sure it is indeed the correct part. By using the vin no. Eper will only show you the parts on your vehicle.
This correct pt number. Just too expensive! The 132 price is to recon mine. But add in post to and from again unviable.

Scrapping when starter fails to turn her over!
