Well worth a look at that price, but you need to take the "280bhp at the wheels" with a sizeable pinch of salt - that would equate to around 330-350bhp at the fly, which takes quite a bit of modification to achieve

You need to ask what has been done to the car to increase the power - there's an awful lot of Coupes going to the scrapyard, simply because the boost was wound up too high without the additional supporting mods required to make it reliable and safe

Went to see it on saturday, apart from a stainless exhaust and induction kit, i couldn't find any other mod. on the car nor from the paperworks, and the seller says he doesn't know much about the car apart from it is "bloody quick"!!! bodywork was poor, so I walked away without a test drive (which the seller was so keen to take me out for a spin!!!) anyway, I just bought a low mileage (83K, "S" reg) standard 20VT on ebay, last service done at 3000miles ago, cambelt changed at 59k, the owner will put her through MOT tomorrow and hopefully picking the car up this saturday!!!

Well done!

There's too many poorly-modded cars around and they all represent a huge bill just waiting to happen

There's nothing wrong with a modded car, as long as you know and trust the mods. Anyone buying my car could do so with complete confidence, despite the fact it's giving more than double the standard horsepower. However, with just £20 worth of manual bleed valve, a Coupe engine can be destroyed in a matter of minutes

You've done the right thing - if it doesn't feel "right", just walk away.

Buying a standard car is MUCH safer, but you should still invest a few quid in having it looked over by one of the Coupe specialists - there are at least four, ranging from Birmingham, Oxfordshire, Reading and Essex

The only thing I would say now is to consider VERY carefully whether you want to start modding - it's a VERY slippery slope! I have two Coupes - one has had upwards of £10k spent on making it better and the other one is completely standard. Both have their appeal.

absolutely, I don't mine modded car, but that one has no history what so ever, so walked away was the only sensible thing to do.

I'm intended to keep the car standard for now and just enjoy it, it going to be my second car anyway as i still have my bravo mjet 150 as my day to day car, anyway, just informed by the seller the car passed its MOT today, roll on saturday!!!!

Here you go, didn't got time to take pic. yet, so just downloaded the one from the seller.

As you can see, the bodywork need a bit of work, driving home the car feels ok but not as fast as I expected (car is 100% standard), it feels slower than my 190bhp tuned bravo 150mjet.
Looking at the paperworks, there are couple places mentioned an exhaust manifold cracked and I couldn't find a recipt for it, so I guess it hasn't been fix? would that affects the performance of the car? also I feel the clutch slips a bit, car did 84k, is it common on the 20vt?
Also the car did 54k in the first 3yrs of its live and only did 30k sinced 2002, it is when the cam belt been replaced, I know they need to be replace every 60k, but it is 9yrs sinced the last one, should I get it done now?

Yes the timing belt will need to be done. But not the end of the world if you need the clutch too :).

And yes if the manifold crack has manifested itself again it will hurt performance on full boost as it will leak.

Where abouts in the UK are you? There's some good specialists around the country.

so the leak will affects the performance more at full boost? if this is the case, my clutch might be ok, what happens was the car accelerate fine from 2-3500rpm, only when it get to around 4000 rpm then I can hear the gas leaking noise and the car starting to struggle to accelerate.
I'm in Bournemouth and these ppl (http://www.italiancsr.co.uk/mot_poole_bournemouth/index.html) used to look after my stilo, i might get them to have a look for me, do you know any good garages around my aera which you would recommend chris?
