With the arrival of the FIAT 500e with its GSE-Firefly 999cc 3-cylinder Mild Hybrid 70 hp engine, there's also an opportunity for an Abarth 500 version.
With the new FIAT 500 3 cylinder Mild Hybrid soon going into production, it would be a small step from the 70 hp Mild Hybrid FIAT 500 to a 3 cylinder Abarth (500) 495 Ibrida, and with the 495 moniker it say more Eco friendly then the past 595/695.
This could become the Abarth 495 Ibrida with a GSE-Firefly 999cc T3 Mild Hybrid 12v 125 hp engine.
With a GSE-Firefly 999cc T3 Mild Hybrid engine and a stronger 48v Mild Hybrid system 145 hp could be possible. (120 hp ICE and 25 hp EV 48v system power)

Since the Abarth 500e isn't selling alongside the FIAT 500e either, FIAT could address that with an Abarth ICE version, thus selling more 500s.
With some exhaust tweaking, which Abarth did admirably with the old Abarth 595/695, with both "Standard" and "Record Monza" exhausts, something similar should be possible with a 3-cylinder, to give it a nice sound.
IMHO, Abarth need a ICE version, to get back some of the former Abarth 595/695 clients.

Abarth could build a Sporty Eco friendly Abarth 495 Ibrida, developed in Italy, Italian build engine, and produced in Italy.

P.S. Made a quick Abarth 495 Ibrida illustration.

Fiat uses a 1.5-liter "FireFly" turbo gasoline engine combined with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for its models, which is often paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
This setup, featuring a 15-kW electric motor, allows for silent, 100% electric starts and can drive on electric power alone for short distances at low speeds, improving efficiency and dynamics.
It powers models like the Fiat 500X Hybrid and Fiat Tipo Hybrid, producing up to 130 hp.

Key features of the Fiat 1.5 hybrid engine
  • Engine type: 1.5-liter FireFly turbo gasoline engine.
  • Hybrid system: 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a 15-kW e-motor.
  • Power: Up to 130 hp and 240 Nm of torque.
  • Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
  • Electric-only driving: Capable of short periods of 100% electric driving at low speeds, a feature not typical of all mild-hybrid systems.
  • Efficiency: Improves fuel efficiency by allowing the gasoline engine to be turned off for significant portions of time (up to 47% on the WLTP cycle).
