Hi,
I have a 2013 Ducato X250 2.3 Multijet with air con.
Air con fan works perfectly but main engine fan does not. Found out after hot long uphill in Spain where engine fan didn’t operate after stopping and heat soak caused lots of warning messages … oil pressure low, change engine oil, switch off engine etc. Fiat garages checked engine etc and said all okay but never ran it long enough to get engine fan to run.
Engine fan works if relay in fuse box bypassed with jumper wire. Relay checked and works as it should.
Temperature gauge reads normal.
Questions :
If I disconnect temperature sensor connector on thermostat housing and short out the connector wires will that send a ‘maximum temperature’ signal to ECU or will the ECU detect it as a fault ?
I’m suspecting a broken/shorted wire between ECU and fan relay and would like to check by shorting sensor connector. Has anyone suffered same problem?
I’ve tried checking continuity between ECU plug and relay contacts in fuse box but not easy seeing which plug contact is correct one.
Has anyone fitted a manual switch, with a relay, to engine fan and where did they connect the wires ?
Thanks

From experience on my x244 2.8jtd removing the fan relay may create a fault code when ignition switched on. Worth a try if not alraedy done.

Multi ECU scan can turn on the radiator fan to check it’s operating correctly I believe.

What makes you think it was definitely that?

I ask as I have heard of someone else doing a long uphill in Europe and getting the same error messages. Put it down in the end to oil becoming too runny after getting mega hot, their fan was working correctly etc.

Another option would be to get an oil analysis done to see if there are any nasties in it like bearing material.
