Hi guys, I'm at my wits end with my motorhome.

I've got a 59 plate swift autotrail motorhome and have serious problems with my automatic transmission. Intermittently and without warning I will loose all drive and the transmission will go into neutral and I can not select a gear.

I've had the motorhome into the garage I bought it and they found the auto transmission fuse had blown and replaced it, but since then the fuse has blown on a number of occasions.

I've had the motorhome into a local mechanic and fiat commercial garage and none of them can tell me why this is happening. The commercial garage fitted a higher amperage fuse but that also blew.

I'm at my wits end with this motorhome and this is my last hope at finding the issue before I cut my losses with the thing.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated and welcome on where to start

Does it do that at steady driving or when going through the gears? Sounds like there is a damaged wire shorting to ground. If you can say when in the driving sequence it happens it might help identify better where. Is that a comfort magic Robotic gearbox?

It's very intermittent mate, has done it about 8 times in 9 months, it's done it when I've picked it up from fiat after it's service and mot, its done it as I've been driving steadily on country roads and motorways with no gear change needed. suddenly and without warning the transmission light will start flashing and the display will show transmission unavailable and I need to free wheel into the side of the road and change the 30amp fuse located in the small fuse box behind the main engine bay fuse box. I have determined that this small fuse box is only on the models with the comfort-matic gear box which mines indeed does have.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm at my wits end mate

Check around the fuse box for water ingress as the ducato if famous for it and it could be water or damp that is blowing the fuse and not the gear box

Yes. Bugger of a problem but you might get lucky. Inspect the looms all round that and the gearbox too with an eye for loose wires, frayed connections and where wires come against metal parts or through something. Everything will be covered in black stuff so if in doubt move the loom to see. If you suspect an area have a good look. Water on its own should not be enough but the resulting corrosion and mess might. So clean that up if you find it.
