Hi, My first post and I guess typically because I have problem!!! I have just purchased a 2008 14 seat minibus to convert into motor caravan. The vehicle was 4005kg mgw for which I have had a new design weight certificate to reduce down to 3500kg. I have removed 10 of the seats and am getting the vehicle re-registered as as PLG with 4 seats. The vehicle has a tachograph (which I do not need) and the speedometer, trip computer etc. all seem to work via the tachograph.
I do not use the tachograph, but it is always in circuit. The problem is that sometimes the speedo stops working, at the same time losing all the trip computer functions. The speedo will then just as suddenly resume normal working. There seems to be no pattern to this, it either works or it doesn't. The cruise control is not affected at all. I had thought that the problem was the tachograph and have purchased a used item (same part number) via ebay, but the fault remains. I know that the replacement tachograph will need to be re-calibrated to suit my vehicle (it reads about 10% different against the GPS speed reading), but the fact that the speed limiter (62mph) follows that even when the fault occurs leads me to believe that the speed sensor is unlikely to be the problem. Is the problem likely to be a faulty lead/bad connection or even a faulty speedo. I have consdered buying a tachograph emulator via ebay (from Latvia!!),but now that I have changed the tachograph do not think that would help.
I am pulling my hair out, so any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Geoff.
