Good morning all,

I have a Ducato based Motorhome (35 130 M-Jet MWB)
Registered 1/09/2008
It has done 66,000 miles
It will not start
I have had some engineers look at it without any answers
The Battery is Good
The Earthing straps are good
The fuses & relays have been tested all ok (some may have been missed!)
The engine turns over but the Padlock light stays on
I have both original keys neither of which have been damaged, the battery in the fob is new
completely confused and stuck!
Can any one give me heads up on what and where to go from here.
I am based in Rutland (East Midlands)

I stand to be corrected but I think it is a waste of time trying to start it if the immobiliser warning stays on when ignition is turned on. The key has to be recognised by the ECU, there is an aerial attached to the ignition switch.

I will second that, except that Rayc does no need to be corrected. If the ECU and Code Receiver combination fail to recogise the key, the ECU will not send the injection command to the injectors.

The battery in the key fob is only for releasing the central door locking. The system uses a passive chip in the key, which communicates via the aerial in the ignition switch area to the code receiver. The receiver is situated in the steering column, and communicates with the ECU.

I have read reports of a broken wire in the short cable between the code receiver and the aerial, and also of corroded wires in the harness causing failure between the ECU and the code receiver.

Definition: Engineer, a person qualified to degree level. Please use the correct term either mechanic, or technician as appropriate. (I know that British Gas, BBC, and BT also use the wrong term.)
