General 2005 2.8JTD Auto gearbox breather

Hi all, I have just replaced the gearbox oil and lost the bloody breather!

- what should I do until I find a new one?
- where canI find a replacement (not Fiat - "no longer in production")

Did you lose the cover or the whole thing

Hi Moodrater, I found what I presumed was the breather on top of the box: a disc shape that I tried twisting to no avail. Then I realised that it probably pops off and gave it too much welly and it disappeared without me getting a good look at it. I'm hoping that it is recoverable as I have a friend coming round with a 'mirror on a stick', but I have used the van briefly in the meantime and it could be lost forever. Your question makes me think it might not have been the breather? Thanks, Mark

...it was the breather cap and I can't find it. Would I only find a replacement on an auto box or manual aswell?

I have covered the hole with a piece of cloth and a cable tie. Any ideas whether this is OK or not and could I do better?
