I wonder if anyone here could please offer advice to friends who have a problem with their Ducato camper?

They need to replace the headlights. Now, headlights for a 2003 registered Ducato (244) are widely available. However, they aren't the type on his van and i've scoured the net looking to see if I can find them but no joy!. Although the vehicle was registered in 2003, my suspicion is that it is a 2002 model. I've attached a picture below of the type of headlight needed - I wonder if anyone could please offer any advice which model headlight it is? Sadly, we cannot deal with UK companies after Brexit due to the import duties imposed but any reference numbers would be very gratefully received.

Thanks Ednic, that is the headlamp unit which keeps coming up as a match on the autospares sites (even when adding the registration which then identifies the vehicle, but as you can see it bears no resemblance to it. Still scouring the net right now... Their controle technique relies on finding replacements!

Do you have a picture of the front of the vehicle?
No sorry, he only sent a picture of one headlamp. He's currently in France but 120kms away from me so too far to pop over and take a photo. I may be able to get him to take hone later today and send it to me. Thanks for trying to help, much appreciated.

I ask because, like you, I've been unable to find anything that looks like the picture and I wonder whether it's an A Class motorhome with non standard lights.

I have come across the same headlights and they are fitted on a 2005 Pilote Galaxy - not this exact same model but these are the same headlights. Very strange that I can't find them anywhere listed on the Fiat site though. I think it's a friday afternoon vehicle.

No.
Whilst the base vehicle may be a ducato, it really only comprises of the engine and gearbox and a small part of the chassis.
The bodywork in the case of one of these motorhomes, know as an AClass, is made by the manufacturer, not Fiat.
The answer is for your friend to contact the manufacturer of the motorhome, in your example Pilote, and seek their assistance. It's not likely to be cheap.

Time spent searching on the Internet for the make and model of the motorhome might produce a result too.

Thank you for your help and advice. The factory seems to be in Angers so I will drop them a line and ask if they have a supplier in Bretagne. Good luck with your own search.

Hello Hugh, I have now been sent a copy of the CG. D1 mentions Fiat, with D2 reading 244BPMAAYC. He's going to pay a visit to a concessionaire of Pilote on Tuesday for a devis.
Very well spotted though and the lights do look identical. I think a visit to the local Merc dealer enroute may be a good idea. Who knows what the delivery time would be for the lights from Pilote - and he has to return home to Norway in a couple of weeks. Thank you.

I've just googled pictures of a Fiat 2002/3 Pilote A-Class, and the headlight units look exactly the same as those used on similar A-Class vehicles using MB as the base.

It would be worthwhile seeing if there is a part number on it, but I'm pretty sure it's an MB unit. As you allude, buying one not from Pilote (ebay or similar) is likely to be quite a bit cheaper.

Hugh, thanks so much. You were spot on and a new set was purchased today from a scrapyard - much cheaper than it would have been from the camper supplier! So, the entire front end of the vehicle is now off and my husband is attempting to fit them for him. You've all been a great help! and

...getting the front off and getting the lights mounted are two different things. ;)

Seriously, it looks like you got there. The units patently weren't Fiat, but it would have been anyone's guess what they were unless you'd posted the further picture of the Sprinter-based similar. It all came together from there, so take a bow yourself. :)
