Hi everyone, new to the forum and this is my first post.

Not long had my Fiat marea 2.4 HLX JTD (which I bought for a £1!!!) and its been running great. managed to fix everything but a few wee bugs

First problem is the rear brakes. the drivers rear is binding and squeals from time to time and the price of a reconditioned one is just plain madness! I mean around the £100 mark for one caliper is loony money.

Does anyone know how easy these calipers are to strip and rebuild with seal kits and is the dealer the best place to find them?

Secondly, my dash is just shows dashes instead of numbers but after a long run (say a few hours) the display kicks back into life. the miles are clocking up and so is the trip counter when they finally resurect themselves. they will then work for a day or so but after some more short runs the die yet again. Any ideas on this?

The rear brake binding problem has come up a couple of times.
Not always the caliper at fault.
First remove the hand brake cable from the caliper and check the inner cable moves freely in the outer shrouding. If this is tight then the cable could be frayed inside and needs replacing. This would cause the brake to stick on. ( also check the hand brake lever on the caliper is free.)
Secondly remove caliper and thoroughly clean the area where the brake pads locate( sit} in the caliper .(this area of the caliper builds up with crud and scale jaming the pads on.) Once cleaned use a slight dab of copper slip where the pads seat and ensure the pads move freely in the caliper when fitted.
My guess is the second option (pads jaming)
Havent got a clue about the dash light problem. sorry

Hello,

When I bought my JTD130 it also had binding back brakes. In my case it was the arms that the handbrake cables attach to behind the caliper. Better to remove the discs and pads first to avoid contamination. Then, as far as I can recall, the arm is mounted on a bolt and can be removed. Spash some WD40 around as appropriate and reassemble once you are sure it has freed, and test.
