Hi, first post here

looked through previous posts but couldn't find my answer.
Im wondering if anyone can explain or give me a link to any diagrams that show the exact location of all the engine mounts. i have no ramps to hand at the moment and would be easier to know where they are located before i lug my large self under the small space of the van. i also don't want to miss any if there are hidden mounts somewhere that are not obvious

i have a wobble of the cab when i start and shut off the engine. I have recently changed the large bushes on the wishbones as they needed doing anyway but now would like to see if the engine mounts may be a cause.
I am eliminating the more simple things before i start looking at clutch related issues.

i thought that it may be starter motor related but this problem is just as bad when i shut the engine off as it is when starting. there doesn't seem to be any vibration during driving or hard acceleration but i am thinking that if this is just the start of the mounts wearing that this may be early symptoms with vibration during driving/acceleration coming later?

any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Many thanks

The 2.3 had a 'intervention' if owners complained to Fiat. This was to stop the 'thump on start up' and 'reverse gear judder'. The intervention was in two parts, the first was to replace the engine mounts, the second to replace the rear gear cog in the gearbox.
Replacing the engine mounts sorted out the 'thump on start up' which appeared to be due to the engine twisting. It would be interesting to know if yours was ever changed although it was mainly the motor home sector which demanded action.

There was a post in the forum from an Australian based owner where it was found that the rear gearbox mount was the problem.

Of course none of the above could have anything to do with your problem. A google of 'diesel shake at switch on or off' gives several possibilities.

I had an engine mount break off on mine due to a previous bodged repair so have an idea where they are!! The primary one is on top of the engine and transmission block and can be seen in the gap between engine and air filter. There is a fulcrum for the gearbox mechanism built into one if it's castings. Another is the other side of the engine under the light and washer bottle area. And a smaller support to the back of the whole thing I think. In summary thunk the primary heavy ones can be accessed from above.

thanks for your replies so far. had a look on the auzzie website but had limited acces.

managed to get the truck jacked up enough to see the mount that is on the clutch housing. the other two mounts higher on the engine dont seem to be moving at all on start or shut off but the lower mount has (at a guess) 2-3 cm movement in it each time its started and stopped so i think this will be my first change as im unsure if the truck had this mount placed as part of the recall.

as i was under the van and someone else was starting it the starter motor seemed to stay on for a lot longer (2 seconds or so) after the engine fired up so i think that this also needs looking at. will search the forum for similar posts for the starter motor issue.

ill keep you updated

update...... asked a mate what he thought of the play in the mount on start up and turn off and he didnt think there was enough to cause that amount of shudder in the cab, so we put the mounting bracket on a jack where the mount bolts on to the clutch housing to see if that would hold the engine a bit more stationary at that point and help reduce the shudder and guess what........no more judder. we decided to make a start and remove the mount while waiting for a new one to arrive this afternoon. after taking it off it was clear that the rubber had worn causing excessive play.

Im hoping that will solve the problem , watch this space.

here are a few pics of the mount location in case anyone else needs an idea of where it is.

Cant post any pics with less than

Thanks Andydiver, it was the fulcrum one that seems to be shot. for 32euros im going to give it a go and hope that sorts it. it made a huge difference when i jacked a bit of pressure of the mount. would be great if that sorts the problem.

the only thing that i can foresee being an issue with the equipment i have to hand is getting the engine forward enough again to enable the fulcrum mount to slide past the clutch housing and into place. the bolts were pretty tight to get out.

thanks for your advice.
