Posted this in the Grande Punto section with no repply.
Seems like the cinq/sei owners are more into engine tuning:)

1368 8v head any good?
Anyone compared it against the trusty old 1242 75 head?
Bought a grande Punto engine the other day,2007 mod.
Took the engine apart and found some things of interest.
Intake valves are 33 mm in dia, instead of 31mm,and has only 5 mm shaft, compared to the 75 heads massive 7 mm.
It is also 3 mm longer than the 75 ones, and uses therefore thinner shims.
Clever!
Will be using lightweight Cosworth lifters with lashcaps anyway.
But i don`t have any 75 head to compare with, think the 1368 head seems to have a much more rough surface.
Will be using this in a Fiat 850 with throttle bodies and engine management.
Would love to hear if someone has been looking in to this.

Also, anyone know if p75 camshaft will fit in the 1368 head?
Apart from the cam sensor on the 1368,they look similar.
Easier to get an aftermarket camshaft to the 1108/1242 range.

I would say the 1368 cam has a better lift over the 1242 (p75) 866 cam. People have looked into using that cam but hard to come by seperated from the engine.

Most of us lot though recycle the sei or cinq head and just fit the cam plus re-shimming.

Thanks

Hey,knew there would be some answers over in this section!

Measured the standard 1368 8v camshaft,9,5mm in lift.

Can flywheels be swapped on those engines aswell?
Have a lightened 1242 flywheel back home in Norway that i could use.
The dual mass from the 1368 eights in at 6,5 kg.

How does a head makes a engine VVT ????????

Ming

the cam pulley and different oil ways for the thing that makes the oil go into the pulley to adjust it

i dont know for sure if its a problem on the 8v, just suggesting the op checks.

the 16v grande seems head is bathed in oil at postive pressure, if you take the sprung diafram (sp?) out of the crank case vent an fit oil catch tank with out it, it pumps all the oil out into the tank in seconds

Took mine from 6,5 to 3.9 kg with lathe and mill.
Scrappy picture, but there is a flywheel mounted on the rotary table there:)
Could go further by drilling the outer rim,but was happy with that result.
If it is so that the Punto 1242 will fit on my 1368 engine is the flywheel up for grabs,if someone of you are into mucho power!
Got a good 200 mm disc on it.
